This reminds me of the work they did on my street I used to live on before I moved 5 years ago.
It was a divided street, so there was a huge median/green space in the middle. The town put in new sewer lines because the street was constantly flooding. The way they changed the street was kind of nice because it extended the front yard 10-15 feet.
They moved the drains from the curbs to the median, but the drains were slightly higher than street level. So when it rained, often times there’d be standing water like in that pic.
And in the winter, it got worse because when they’d plow the streets after snowstorms, they’d plow the snow towards the median so the drains would get blocked, and when the snow melted the streets would flood, so we’d have to go there and chip the snow/ice away so it could drain.
