If you put them both on the exact same teams, but the only difference was Bird and LeBron – Bird’s team wins a 7 game series 10/10 times.
And LeBron would be crying on the sidelines like the obvious bitch that he is.
There is more to greatness than accumulating stats in an era when it’s easier to score.
Sheesh.
LeBron is a way better defender than Bird, and a significantly more efficient scorer. He’s the better player. More rings, more MVPs. Better advanced metrics.
Bird is the better three point shooter and better free throw shooter.
LeBron has the better FG% in an era when it’s easier to score.
Whoopty-fucking-do.
It would be easier to explain if you didn’t eschew True Shooting. LeBron is significantly more efficient from two-point range, and this more than offsets Bird’s greater efficiency from three-point range and the free throw line.
LeBron was much more efficient than Bird from two-point range both for peak and for career.
I don’t think it’s easier to score now than it was in the 80s.
I think that while the defense has improved since the 80s, so has the offense, and so we can see higher scoring games even though the defense is better. If the defense has improved, but the offense has improved by an even bigger margin, you can have high scoring games despite the improvement in the defense.
