Saw where Abdollah Movahed passed away. He was a great one 5 time world champ and Olympic champ. I think he went like 5-6 years without losing a match or giving up a point. Not sure how old he was but his grandson is a young adult.

Grandson won Super 32 and wrestles for FCA. Was injured off and on this season.

Damn that’s awful. He was a volunteer assistant coach at Arizona State when they won an NCAA title in 1988. Wonderful guy who was very low key, but he knew his wrestling.

The boy was selected to be on team Michigan at the 14u Schoolboy Duals

He’ll be doing both Greco and Free depending on how he places at the state tournament in a couple weeks

schoolboy duals were fun…

Should be a good time! This age is tough as it can sometimes feel like a race to puberty, but he’s been working his butt off and placed highly in a couple of regional tournaments to get himself noticed

dude…

all youth wrestling is about is who matures physically or mentally fastest… the only real goal should be to just build a love for the sport…

the meatheads went to all the big tourneys all through youth… Tulsa stuff… Kids Nationals…

Schoolboys duals was right at the beginning of when this stuff starts to matter and the competition was some of the absolute last when it was just fun…

another quality episode…

i really like the format of this pod because it is not just rehashing the same old things over and over… the entire point is just to hear some good stories and get a little more insight…

there are personal things about askren that make me crazy, but, i really think that is just the 'tism… it is the exact same reason why max and i butted heads so hard basically from birth and through his HS years…

but, there are just as many things (if not more) that i absolutely love about askren…

Great experience for him. He’ll have a great time. Focus on the process- the training, preparation, etc- don’t worry about outcomes at that age. Tons of kids are amazing and win everything at hat age but don’t develop further as they grow and age. Best wishes to your boy!!

Truth…

I should probably hear your thoughts about how these tournaments go - the only one we have ever gone to that is more than one day is The Rumble in Cedar Point, and we only go there for the free 5-day amusement park pass

Do the events occur at the same time daily? I work remote and would like to try and work a bit while we are at the tournament. I can be pretty flexible, but would like an idea of what to expect.

there is going to 4-6 different Pools created and they will all be wrestling basically at the same time…

once those pools are completed then the appropriate winners and losers of each pool will match up in the medal pools…

point being, almost every team is going to wrestle the same amounts of duals…

expect 2-3 duals in each session with 2 sessions a day that will generally start at 9-10AM local and go till 2-3 local… an hour or so break and then second session…

that will be repeated each day for 2 days of greco and 2 days of free…

i have gone to events and tried to work in-between it is a nightmare… much easier to watch online and work in between… being there live it is entirely too easy to get too wrapped up in the emotion and circumstances…
