And now part 3!
Yesssss
I fucking love this guys videos.
I want him to do one on the history amd importance of MMA.TV and the old forums. Since its all seemingly lost forever.
Good call and yes he is just incredible.
His references/humor are right up my alley, very entertaining.
+1
My Judy Alvarez () comments are made in the same way that his Valentina ones are.
It must kill Jones that he’ll never be the lineal MMA champ.
Does he eliminate the people caught using steroids? It’s not really fair to do that because in the 90s most orgs weren’t testing for roids.
He’s barely even a real HW champ and has no real HW legacy.
His name doesn’t belong among these titans of MMA.
In 4 Boom
Halfway through first episode and it’s awesome so far.
My only gripe is, the lineal HW title starts with Ken Shamrock.
He called the Super fight belt the “beta version”, which is funny.
But Ken running through Severn, positionally dominating Oleg, and out-classing Kimo, is more than worthy of mention.
The “lineal” title truly starts with Royce Gracie – who was not a HW, but who beat HWs like Ken, Severn, and Kimo.
When Shamrock and Royce fought to a “draw” (defacto Shamrock win), and Royce left the UFC – Ken retained the Super fight title which would become the first UFC HW title.
The next Super Fight Ken ran through Severn and made it look easy.
Severn “winning” The Dance In Detroit meant he retained that Super Fight title (despite the legit controversy).
The video mentions Ken’s “loss” to Severn and even the rule changes.
But even when doing the obligatory Dan Severn career summary, fails to mention Ken’s dominant submission victory over Severn.
The Lineal “HW” MMA title starts with Royce/Ken/Severn/Coleman.
But Severn needs to be qualified because he was obviously not as good as Ken, who went to the WWF.
This story cannot be accurately told without these details.
Saying UFC 12 was the first “official” HW title is semantics that misses a huge part of the story.
Dude went so far as to talk about Tank/Ferozzo – yet couldn’t be bothered to address Ken’s more than significant impact on that era?
Weird.
Great points.
Dude buckle up. This series is phenomenal.
If we’re including Boxing the current lineal Heavyweight Champ is Usyk. Nganou who was UFC CHAMP at the time lost to Fury,Fury then lost to Usyk.
Nothing “brief” about this history. I’m confused why people like this guy’s videos. I couldn’t get past the first 5 minutes of complete nonsense.
Maybe it gets better?

The Superfight title should not be considered the equal to the Heavyweight title because there was no weight requirement in order to obtain it. However, I do agree Ken should have been mentioned since Severn had to defeat him in order to become a contender for the Heavyweight title.
It’s not about being greater than or less than.
It’s about the origin of it.
Sure there was no weight requirement, but up until the second Shamrock fight Royce was beating legit HWs, including Severn.
And the dude mentioned Severn vs Royce – but for some reason skips Severn’s loss to Shamrock – which was significant.
Shamrock “earned” that Super fight belt way more than Severn ever did. And he was fighting tournament winners (and Kimo) to retain it.
One could say the Superfight belt was the open-weight belt that was fought over by HWs starting with the second Super fight.
One could even argue it goes back to the original “NHB title” held by Royce as the undefeated multiple tournament champion leading up to the second Ken fight.
One could point out that Coleman is the first official HW champion. But he wasn’t also the new Superfight champion. That belt dissolved into the HW title – thus, it is the origin of it.
Regardless, I’ve been watching more and this dude obviously has distain for Ken on some level.
Not only did he gloss over the stuff mentioned above – when it came to the Mo Smith fight he called him “SlamCock”, and proceeded to gush all over Frank while showing WWF images of Ken.
Just a reminder that we are often shown history through the eyes of others.
Thankfully, I watched it all unfold in real time, so I can fill in the blanks.
This, combined with contextual humor, let’s me know that this series is for people who already know the history. I wouldn’t use it as a teaching tool lol.
That being said – I’m enjoying it and will finish the series.
I will be commenting on his channel at some point though – after I finish probably – just in case I have any other “gripes” lol.
I could be wrong, but I’ve watched most of his videos and I don’t think he actually has a disdain for Ken. He just enjoys poking fun at him.
When he did his series on TUF he gave Ken a lot of credit for being a great fighter but clearly being a little out of touch by '06.
I think the superfight title not being considered the start of the lineal title has more to do with the fact that at the time, it really wasn’t considered to be a greater title than the tournament title at the time.
Really I think the argument that the lineal title starts with Royce at UFC 1 or Ken at Pancrase 1 is stronger than that it starts with Ken at UFC 6.
