UFC light heavyweight champion, Alex Pereira, is once again hitting the 240-pound mark.

Probably because “Poatan” is still recovering from a broken foot suffered in his technical knockout victory over Magomed Ankalaev atop the UFC 320 fight card back in October. Fortunately for Pereira, he may not have to worry about cutting any of that exorbitant weight for his Octagon return.

That’s according to UFC color commentator, Joe Rogan.

“There’s a lot of chatter about him fighting in the heavyweight division,” Rogan said on his ”Experience” podcast. “There’s a lot of chatter about him perhaps even fighting Ciryl Gane. I don’t know how much is true, I haven’t talked to Dana (White) about it.”

“But it’s not an illogical move,” Rogan said about Pereira’s possible jump to heavyweight. “He’s 240 pounds right now, 240 plus. Make no mistake about it, that guy can knock out heavyweights. No doubt about it. He hits harder than anyone they’ve ever recorded.”

Strongman Eddie Hall might have something to say about that record.

Pereira, 38, has long teased a jump to the heavyweight division and there was equal “chatter” about a potential UFC White House fight against Jon Jones. As for Gane, he was expected to draw another shot at Tom Aspinall’s heavyweight title, but that plan may change if the injured Brit remains sidelined in 2026.

there is nothing interesting about Gane. Is there only 3 heavyweights in the UFC ffs? lol

Yes.

Have you seen the roster?

There’s aspinal, Gane and sometimes Jones.

So the time is right for Alex to move up and pick off the easiest one before cashing in bigly against aspinal or jones.

Gane has a great chin, good defense, and is a pretty good point fighter. I dont like this fight for Alex.

Gane/Pereira is interesting but beyond that, what is there for Alex? A guy like Aspinal would take him down and finish him.. Jones would flat out embarrass him

Gable Steveson needs to hurry up - Alex moving up to hvwt won’t help make things much more exciting
