Sean Brady and Joaquin Buckley both aim to stay in title contention when they meet in a main event clash this April.
The UFC announced Saturday that Brady and Buckley are set to meet in a welterweight bout that headlines its upcoming April 25 event at Meta APEX in Las Vegas.
Both fighters are currently in the top 15 of the MMA Fighting Global Rankings at 170 pounds, with Brady at No. 8 and Buckley at No. 11. However, both are also coming off of losses that derailed their chances of fighting for a UFC title in the near future.
Brady (18-2) put himself on the cusp of a championship opportunity after dominating and becoming the first fighter to submit former titleholder Leon Edwards this past March. That was Bradyâs third straight win and he was booked against another contender in Michael Morales for his next fight. The outcome didnât go Bradyâs way as he Morales defeated him by first-round knockout.
Buckley (21-7) finds himself in a similar situation. After committing to a welterweight move in 2023, Buckley rattled off six consecutive victories, but when he ran into Kamaru Usman this past June, he was unable to get past the former welterweight champion. His win streak included wins over longtime contenders Colby Covington, Stephen Thompson, and Vicente Luque.
No other bouts have been announced for the April 25 card, though MMA Fighting previously confirmed that ranked bantamweights Norma Dumont and Yana Santos are set to face off on that date.
I hope Sean chokes him unconscious
Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) recently announced a pair of headlining acts for two of its upcoming âFight Nightâ events at Meta Apex on Paramount+ in April.
First up is the UFC Fight Night 115 card on April 4 featuring Renato Moicano vs. Chris Duncan. Moicano (20-7-1) needs a win to keep himself in the lightweight Top 10 after dropping back-to-back losses to Islam Makhachev (UFC 311) and Beneil Dariush (UFC 317).
Duncan (15-2) has yet to crack the 155-pound rankings but certainly not for a lack of trying. âThe Problemâ is the winner of four straight, including his submission victory over Terrance McKinney at UFC 313 in Las Vegas, pushing him to 6-1 inside the Octagon.
Great fight I like this match
Brady should dominate on the ground and win easily imo
As of this writing, the UFC hasnât officially announced the fight. UFC CEO Dana White announced the promotionâs White House card last weekend at the UFC 326 post-fight press conference, and the matchmakers will now turn their attention towards their other upcoming events.
Zalal returns to the Octagon after submitting Josh Emmett at UFC 320 in October. After going winless in four-straight fights, Zalal has won his last eight bouts, including recent victories over Calvin Kattar, Jack Shore, and Billy Quarantillo.
Sterling vs. Zalal pits two of the featherweight divisionâs top grapplers against one another in a pivotal matchup at 145 lbs. The full UFC Vegas 116 fight lineup is expected to be finalized in the coming weeks.
