Anyone makes off grid power plus EV car?

I am just curious how it’s working out for you. Is it what you had hoped? I am thinking of making an off grid ranch later

I am completely offgrid, an EV is basically Impossible here for us. I run 9kw of solar, I would need triple that to have any chance at the house still being functional and an EV getting charged. I’d also need to upgrade the balance of the rest of the system to get anywhere near a fast charger, the current they draw is an order of magnitude greater than what I can supply now.

It always sounds cool to me when someone successfully gets off grid

How long can you go without sun?

id have assumed hydro go figure

We get about 40 hours with no sun until the generator kicks on, a bit more if we conserve. End of Nov - mid Feb the generator comes on 3 or 4 times a week for about 4hrs each run to charge batteries, from here until Nov the generator basically only comes on every few weeks for exercise. I’ve got 30kwh of battery, i’ve replaced the entire system since we purchased the house. It was built for a cottage / small cabin. Part of the deal with my wife and son was that they wouldn’t have to “feel” like they lived off grid. You wouldn’t know unless you saw the panels or I told you.

Or you tried to sell me an EV charger.

Where do you live. How expensive is power where you are? I assume you did this due to being remote. So you have municipal water?

I live in central Ontario. It would have been $80k to get hydro back to the house, our driveway is a km long, on 25 acres. It was originally built as a single bedroom log home for an older couple, the solar was built to suit. They ended up putting an addition on, when we bought from them we added a dishwasher, full size freezer, proper washing machine, etc. The system was never intended for a house this size, hence the upgrades. I have a drilled well, water as clean as you could find and zero smell. Only bill is propane, we spend about $2k a year on that.
