I regularly see videos about how palm strikes are safer due to less risk of boxers break but I am confuddled about teh delivery!
Yes at closer range what Bas said makes total sense. But if I got into a fist fight at jab/rear hand length, would I not be losing a few inches?

They have their place.
Both Ken and Bas dropped dudes with some heavy palm strikes.
If you’re defending yourself or others to the point that you might be fighting for your life – you probably won’t be thinking much about it – and a broken hand will be an afterthought.

I have fuuucked dudes up before with palm strikes. Along with elbows, head butts etc I think they are super effective in not fucking up your hands in a fight, standing and on the ground.

I knocked a dude out in a bar parking lot with a hybrid slap, palm strike. He was a pretty big guy too.
He was someone who I thought was a casual friend but on that particular night he was being belligerent as hell & for whatever reason, he decided to fuck with me. Maybe he wanted to prove something to himself, I don’t know. But he kept picking at me, saying stupid shit & inviting me to go outside. At first, I tried to laugh it off & stay cool. But after a while, he pissed me off & I decided to leave rather than kill the asshole. But as I was walking to my car he came jogging up behind me & he tried to grab the hood of the hoodie I was wearing & that made me finally see red so I spun around & cracked him with that open-hand strike & he went down like he’d been shot. By this time one or two of the people he was with had come out of the bar & they tended to him while I went to my car & drove off. Fuck him.

This. I don’t think you can replace punches, but I can see adding palm strikes in as another option.
