I think it was also a period of discipline and stability, which he badly needed. Being a ‘prodigy’ was a curse in a lot of ways, because he had natural talent that allowed him to effortlessly succeed. Kinda the opposite to someone like Forrest Griffin, where it always felt like he was punching above his weight, talent-wise.
