Cain to Receive ‘Multi-Fight’ Offer Upon Prison Release

There will be a multi-fight contract waiting for former UFC champion Cain Velasquez when he gets out of prison—if he decides he wants to compete again.

Velasquez is currently behind bars after catching an attempted murder charge several years ago. The incident in question occurred in 2022, when he fired his gun at a man he claimed molested his young son, and accidentally injured the man’s stepfather in the process. Velasquez received a ton of support from the MMA community after the incident. UFC CEO Dana White even wrote the judge a letter on the former champ’s behalf. However, he was ultimately sentenced to five years earlier this week.

However, when the time Velasquez already served is factored in, he could be a free man in the next year or so. When he is, he can ostensibly expect a multi-fight offer from Dirty Boxing Championship, a new combat sports promotion helmed by Mike Perry and co-owned by current UFC heavyweight champ Jon Jones.

The promotion announced its plans to offer Velasquez a contract on its social media channels this week.
Dirty Boxing Championship will offer a multi-fight contract to Cain Velasquez to fight as soon as he’s free,” the image in the promotion’s post on X stated.

Will Cain Velasquez fight again?

Velasquez is considered one of the greatest heavyweights in MMA history, having twice held the UFC heavyweight title. Highlights of his resume include victories over Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira, Brock Lesnar, Junior dos Santos (twice), Antonio “Bigfoot” Silva (twice), Travis Browne, Cheick Kongo, and Ben Rothwell. However, the former champ has not fought since 2019, when he suffered a quick knockout loss to Francis Ngannou.

He seemed to be enjoying his retirement, focusing on coaching and a brief WWE stint. However, it’s no secret that high-profile legal proceedings are expensive, so he may be considering another fight. If he is, the door is clearly open at Dirty Boxing.

The promotion recently hosted its first event. It featured former UFC star Yoel Romero in the main event. Andrei Arlovski, another former UFC champ, was also on the bill. Both men won by stoppage.

5 years isn’t bad considering people were saying he was probably going to get 20. Hopefully Cain can get out early on good behavior or something. 5 years sucks but it could be worse.

Was it always his back that was fucked up or his hip?
I forget. Did he ever get whatever was constantly nagging him fixed?

He has a fucked up back which is why he would never fight and had to retire early. I don’t see this comeback going well with a fucked up back and 5 years in prison. He hasn’t fought in years and then you throw in 5 more years of inactivity.

He will be 47 years old and almost 15 years removed from his last win. It could be ugly.

He’s the poster boy for how overtraining can ruin your career. His strength and conditioning coach was a fucking moron.

He should televise fights from prison

True. This was a well known thing even while he was still champion and dominating everyone. He could have been the heavyweight GOAT or at lowest top 3 best of all time in that division if his overtraining didn’t ultimately end his career so early. Cain would dominate people even harder than Fedor would.

He should start training now so he’ll be ready upon release to pull out of the fight with a back injury.
