UFC legend Charles Oliveira has confirmed that he would be interested in running it back with Max Holloway, 10 years on from when they first met in the cage.
As we know, Charles Oliveira is one of the greatest lightweights of his generation ā and one of the most accomplished in UFC history. However, after getting knocked out by Ilia Topuria in his most recent outing, he needs to build his way back up to the top. Heāll hope to start doing so in the main event of UFC Rio later this year when he collides with Rafael Fiziev.
For Charles Oliveira, itās all about proving that he still has what it takes to thrive at the elite level. We all know how good heās been over the years but the real hope among his fans is that he has at least one more run left in him.
In a recent interview with Thunderpick, Charles Oliveira spoke about the possibility of a rematch against Max Holloway, a man who is currently looking for a UFC lightweight title shot of his own.
Charles Oliveira confirms interest in Max Holloway rematch
āMan, I think everyone wants to see that fight,ā Oliveira told Thunderpick of Holloway. āItās definitely going to happen at some point. Whatever people say doesnāt really matter to me.
āEverybody knows I was injured. I spent two days in the hospital, why would I do that for nothing? Thatās just part of the game. Heās a great fighter. Heās the BMF champ. So why not make it happen later on? For now, letās stay focused on this fight, and then weāll see.ā
Iād like to see it.
Would be a cool fight. Also Charles is fighting Fiziev soon, which is a great matchup.
Charles Oliveira has made it clear heās not ready to hang up the gloves anytime soon. āDo Bronxā makes a quick four-month turnaround since being knocked out by Ilia Topuria at UFC 317, taking on the much lower-ranked Rafael Fiziev in Rio de Janeiro this October.
Their matchup could shake the lightweight divisionās top ranks, and a loss for Oliveira would be his second in a row and potentially cost him his No. 3 lightweight ranking. At 35, Oliveira is already considered a veteran in the lightweight shark tank. With his contemporaries like Dustin Poirier calling it quits, fans wouldnāt blame Oliveira for following the same path.
However, speaking to MMA Knockout by way of Thunderpick, Oliveira shut down any talks of retiremen

Oliveira says passion, not pressure, will decide his fighting future.
āTo be real with youāeverything you do in life, you have to do it with joy. Youāve got to be excited about it, passionate even. If youāre not, then somethingās wrong,ā Oliveira told us.
āLike, say Iām working constructionāam I happy doing that? Hell no. So while I still feel that fire, that drive to wake up early, train, diet, cut weight⦠Iāll keep fighting. Iāll keep making history. The day I stop feeling that passionāthatās when Iāll walk away. But right now? Iām not even close to thinking about retiring.
Iām happy. Iām excited. I love training, helping the younger guys, learning, evolving. Wins and losses, mistakes and successesātheyāre all part of the fight game. So no, Iām not even thinking about that right now.ā

Normally iād agree, but thatās an extremely fast turnaround for Charles, especially considering he was just brutally knocked out. Most people take time to let the brain heal. This approach does not bode well for Charlesā¦
And Iād favor Max against him, because Charles can be exciting, but he rarely executes a sound game plan
Oh I agree, he shouldnāt be fighting.
Charles Oliveira isnāt even thinking about hanging up the gloves.
In July, Oliveira faced off with Ilia Topuria for the vacant lightweight title in the main event of UFC 317. It went poorly for āDo Bronx,ā who was brutally knocked out in under three minutes. Given the severity of the knockout, most fans assumed the former lightweight champion would be in for a long layoff, but that is not the case.
Earlier this month, it was announced that Oliveira will take on Rafael Fiziev in the main event of UFC Rio on Oct. 11. Itās a quick turnaround but one Oliveira insists heās ready for.
āFirst, because Iām ready,ā Oliveira told AgFight when asked why didnāt take more time off. āSecondly, because I will fight for my audience, my flag, my country. Itās been a long time since Iāve fought in Brazil, so being able to fight in front of the public, for my flag, for my people, thatās going to be huge. ā¦
āOf course, a lot of people will be talking, a lot of people will be criticizing, but the most important thing is how happy I am, how much I want this fight. it doesnāt really make a difference. One month, two months, three months, Iāve already started fighting after 15 days.ā
Oliveira has not competed on Brazilian soil since his victory over Kevin Lee at UFC Brasilia back in 2020. That event was during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, and as such, had limited fan attendance. In contrast, UFC Rio figures to be a sell-out crowd. And for those attending perhaps with the fear that this may be the final time they ever see Oliveira compete, āDo Bronxā tells them not to worry, heās far from done fighting.
āNo, forget it,ā Oliveira said. āPeople are trying to retire me before I want to retire. I havenāt even thought about retirement. I have no desire to retire, I donāt want to retire. Thereās a lot going on. Iām very happy with what Iām doing. Iām only 35, and thereās a lot going on.
āSo stop talking to me about retirement, because I donāt want to retire now. [Iāll fight] until I feel good, until I feel excited about dedicating myself, training, and being happy. Thatās the most important thing.ā
Great fight. I think Max mercs him but I wouldnāt bet the farm on it. Charles is a great guy and deserves whatever he wants.
