Well in the movie he’s kind of supposed to look like a generic Karate guy who also did ballet, right?
So then it’s good acting is it not?
That said, some of JCVD’s full contact record is said to be dubious.
I believe he did some lower level “kickboxing” that probably looked more like continuous sparring rules.
So no I don’t think he was some full contact killer.
It’s not like he was fighting in the PKA.
But that’s still more than just a TMA actor who never really fought.

On a side note, people kind of throw shade on Chuck Norris because he was “only a point champion”.
Yeah, so not everyone went full contact.
I still think Norris was an excellent martial artist and a dangerous dude in his own right.
He was also very practical, and understood that fights usually go to the ground before the whole GJJ thing took off.
Point fighting has it’s place.
There’s a lot to be said for being the first to strike while controlling distance that is applicable in a real self-defense situation.
It’s not that. My old TKD instructor was friends with him in the 1980s. Billy is a different era and a good point guy. He has skills don’t get me wrong but Michael is a better fighter and more knowledgeable also. He is very well read.
Chuck would distract jcvd and then get the KO by throwing a wig-house, which is where his hair flies off from a deft swing of the head, to reveal another fist underneath it.
Van damage only had one amateur kb match. Chuck had none but he had a lot of time as a sparring partner with joe lewis and bill wallace, he also promoted a team kb competition where cities would have their own 5 man team and compete in duel meets. At a lot of early fights you can see him in lewis and Wallace’s corner
