I remember his first posting. He was leaving Michigan and driving to California to begin his NHB (pre-MMA days) dream. Instead of motels, he was trying to find gyms along the route that would let him sleep on their mats at night.

Anyone remember the short lived Ultimate Athlete magazine?
Dan wrote a couple articles for them. One was about him and his fights in Japan.
UA put on two events. The first was in NW Indiana by me in 2002, as Indiana was one ofnthe few states at the time that was really MMA friendly ( remember Hook n Shoot?)
Dan was one of the judges.
I met up with him before the show and he was super nice, but he seemed a bit off. I have a picture with him, Stephen Bonnar, and Frank Shamrock somewhere from that show.
I miss that goofy bastard. His vids were hilarious. And he got more delusional as time went on.
Then he became a firearms expert.
I remember his vid of him doing some pistol shooting competition , can’t rember the association, but he ran from station to station like an elderly Asian woman.

Me and my girlfriend hung out with Dan one night.
I’m not a big talker and Dan likes to talk.
Pretty nice guy as far as I’m concerned.
He does like talking about himself and name dropping which is why he catches a lot of flack.

I remember he wrote about his Jeremy Horn fight like it was this epic back and forth battle full of counters and recounters, then I watched it. They clinched with no action for a couple minutes then Jeremy tossed him, mounted him, leaned up for punched and Dan somehow escaped out the backdoor where Jeremy immediately clinched and ko’ed him with a knee.

Phyllis Lee said he lied his way into a fight in Japan. Come fight day, he locked himself in his hotel room saying he was sick. It was only after many threats to reveal this story to the public that he finally came out and went to the venue.

the audience can see he was here. But unfortunately they do not
remember who he was. I am ashamed of him…"

I didn’t “punk” you. You punk yourself through your actions. I saw a thread suggesting you had ties to myself, Abe, and Todd and I felt it necessary to refute that. I don’t want people thinking I have anything to do with you. Whether Tom is actually your friend remains to be seen but I will ask Erik if you are invited to our gym. I suppose anyone who wants to pay can but as for being invited to train with us, the fighters -that I know is off limits to you. If not by Erik then by me. I don’t train with Zawi and have only meet him twice at Eriks. I don’t really know him. I watched you act the fool on the mat wrestling with people at Enson’s seminar while wearing a long past its due date PRIDE tryouts shirt. Most likely because it said “Fighter” on it and you wanted to try and show off. You’re lucky some one decent or even as much bigger than you as your were of the people you wrestled didn’t graba hold of you on the mat. You had no reason to try and show off and act like you were so much better than the guys that showed up. No one but me saw it and I was not impressed. Maybe you could have chased Ethan Suplee around some more? Plans to get on “My Name is Earl” anytime soon? What it comes down to is I don’t suffer fools.
