Dana White and the UFC will fine champions who lose their belts, according to Tom Aspinall
Tom Aspinall recently appeared on an episode of The Diary of a CEO, where he revealed that UFC champions face a huge penalty from Dana White and the company if they lose their championship belts.
During the interview, host, Steven Bartlett, picked up a replica title as the Englishmanâs real belt was at home.
The podcaster said: âI heard rumours online that the real thing actually costs about 300 grand, and you have to sign a contract that if you lose this belt, then you have to personally pay.â
Aspinall answered in the affirmative, explaining: âIf it goes missing, Iâm paying for it, so hopefully that wonât happen, but itâs in a very safe spot, so it wonât go missing.â
Dana White named his favorite fight in UFC history
While White wouldnât be thrilled if one of the UFC champions lost their belts, there are lots of things that do bring a smile to his face.
In particular, the 55-year-old enjoys a good old-fashioned brawl.
During his time with the company, the entrepreneur has witnessed many an explosive contest.
However, one stands out from the pack. White revealed his favorite UFC fight ever.
âYou should never be able to fight againâ ⌠Aspinall blasts steroid cheats in MMA
Speaking to Ariel Helwani, the British champion made a comparison between cheating in cycling, to cheating in MMA.
âIf youâre a sprinter, and you take PEDs and you win a race, thatâs okay,â Aspinall remarked. "Youâre a cheat, youâve won, theyâll take your title off you or whateverâŚ
"If your job is to hurt another person⌠Which could potentially redirect the rest of their entire life past fighting, youâre an absolute piece of sâ. You should never be able to fight again.
â. . . Itâs disgusting and anybody whoâs caught doing any kind of [performance enhancing drugs]⌠Youâre a pretty sick individual in my opinion.â
PED-abuse especially in heavyweight MMA is dangerous territory. Most notably, heavyweight MMA legend Mark Hunt sued the UFC for pitting him against an enhanced Brock Lesnar at UFC 200.
âThe Super Samoanâ accused the UFC and CEO Dana White of knowing Lesnar was using PEDs before the fight, but allowed it to proceed. Ultimately, the case was dismissed.
I agree with Aspinall
Champs donât get to keep their belts if they lose?
I assume this is the UFCâs way of trying to deter champs (past or present) from selling/giving away belts that then find their way to pawn shops, auction houses etcâŚIf their belts are going to wind up going to market, they want their cut of the sales and seems like this is how they possibly try to claw it back
So do they keep the belt forever but arenât allowed to sell it/give it away?
Or do they actually give the belt back to the UFC when they lose a fight?
I remember Russell Crowe saying that Oscar winners have a contract that the Oscar statue canât be sold. If you or your family no longer want it, it has to be given back to the Academy.
do they have to check in with him every so often and show a picture of them with it as proof? this is dumb. they either own the belt or they donât, like the masters green jacket
