I’m a tuff noob. Got into this scene in 06. In 07 or 8 they came to a wsof show with Dana and the film crew for the show. I had no idea who these guys were and mask came in with cameras and I’m sitting in my chair at the fighter table and this dude just picks his foot up in front of the fucking camera and put it on the edge of my chair and my god damn leg.
Became a funny joke after that .

There used to be a 3 hour window for the ppvs and I remember the feed cutting out mid fight in I believe it was UFC 33. It was Zuffa’s grand return to cable ppv.

Nickelback, Affliction, TapOut, etc. were all made substantially worse by the people who liked them and consumed their product.

And of course you never got to see the prelims back then, even if was,say, Randleman vs Babalu.

That was in 01ish if my eyes are working. Half a decade before I started watching the ppvs. I see Tito headlined that card and at the time me and most of the people my age always thought Tito was some superhero that was not to be fucked with.

Yep, it was September '01. They had a run of 3-4 of the best all time UFCs leading up to it, and then in their first cable ppv since around '96, they flatlined. Pele Landi was originall;y booked for that one btw. And 170 Anderson Silva for the next. I could run on, lol.

They would have more than two 5 round fights back then? And I’ve never heard of the break in the ppv. An ad break?
Tap out used to hand young fighters a 100 dollar bill and tshirts.
The original guys gave back.

No, the broadcast would turn into a pumpkin at the three hour mark, mid fight in this case, and everyone phoned their cable company demanding a refund. This was before they started slipping commercials into the ppvs. It was 30 bucks at this point I think. At least in Canada.

I attended the 10th anniversary UFC held at Mohegan Sun and they had an opportunity to meet all of the headliners from the first ten years. I ended up at the end of the line because I was talking to Tito (who was by far the most approachable and personable fighter there). The guys in front of me were the TapOut crew. They were fully garbed out with face paint and camouflage. This was during the height of their fame as celebrities and as a clothing company.
I am kind of a gray man. I blend. There was a film crew there filming spots for the UFC and they were asking folks if they wanted to say something. They walked right by me without even asking so I approached them and they let me do a fifteen second ad for them. Then a guy was handing out fliers for a new grappling school opening up in the Hartford area and he too just walked right past me even though I was reaching for one of the fliers. One of the TapOut guys saw all of this and said to me, “Dude, you are invisible!” and he wasn’t wrong.
They seemed like good guys. A little loud and larger than life, but that was their schtick, and they were good at it.
