Fight Night Canada - 4/18

The UFC is headed back to Canada, and the fight card for the event is already coming together.

The MMA promotion is set to touch down in Ottawa, Ontario, the country’s capital city, on April 18. The event will most likely occur at the Canadian Tire Centre, the home of the NHL’s Ottawa Senators. The plan has not been officially confirmed by the company, but several journalists have reported the card is in the works, including veteran Canadian MMA media member Adam Martin.

As Martin reported, the event is expected to be a Fight Night card, rather than a numbered event.

This will be the third time the UFC has visited Ottawa. The last time was in 2019. That card was headlined by a lightweight clash between Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone and Al Iaquinta.

The first UFC Ottawa card occurred in 2016. That event was headlined by a clash of welterweight contenders, with Stephen “Wonderboy” Thompson defeating Rory MacDonald by decision. Cowboy was also in action on that card, knocking out Patrick Cote in the co-main event.

First fight announced for UFC Ottawa on April 18

The main event for the upcoming UFC event in Ottawa has not yet been revealed. However, the first of what should be 11-14 fights has now been revealed.

According to a report from AG Fight, the card will feature a clash of flyweight contenders, with Canada’s Jasmine Jasudavicius taking on Karine Silva.

Jasudavicius, who hails from the province of Ontario, will be looking to rebound from a stoppage loss to Manon Fiorot in Vancouver last year. Brazil’s Silva last fought in December when she lost a decision to Maycee Barber.

The UFC is reportedly moving an upcoming Canada card to a city that the promotion hasn’t visited in nearly 10 years.

Canada has long been a major market for the UFC thanks to the tremendous success and popularity of Canadian fighters like UFC Hall of Famer Georges St-Pierre, and last year the world’s leading MMA made two visits to the country with shows in Montreal and Vancouver.

Holy shit!!! card of the year?!?!
