I posted my first YouTube video! Itâs not a fully realized idea yet, but it is an idea that I like, and will continue to develop over time.
The good thing is the video on YouTube is the only original, unaltered version there is. The version(s) I posted to TikTok had to be changed because I can only have sixty seconds of music in a video. Taking any of the song out drastically changes the video and makes it anticlimactic. I am posting a second version to TikTok with gaps in the music so it only plays 60 full seconds of it. Here is the full YouTube version.
For those with TikTok, here is the TT version
Awesome thread.
Thanks brother!
Cool video! That music was an interesting choice but it worked and felt original.
Sakuraba to me took MMA/NHB to a different level from an entertainment perspective. Before him it seemed to be all business and which style was best but after Sak he was so creative and original that it was all about the show and it upped the showmanship and entertainment factor to a different level.
Thanks dude I appreciate it.
Iâm a metalhead so that bleeds through to a lot of the things I do. In my past videos too. Between The Buried & Me are an amazing band.
But one day I was listening to a band and the music reminded me of Wanderlei (made me want to watch him), and I thought it would be cool to do a series likening a fighterâs style to a metal band. So I just started watching a bunch of tape on guys and writing down attributes that described them, then went through my library to find a band that fit those attributes. I have a short list of a few guys in my notes.
In this video I wanted to create some suspense and start it off slowly. I added in the random black and white cut outs just to build drama and add some depth to the video. I really like how it turned out. I will definitely be experimenting with this more in the future.
Couldnât agree more on Saku and it was all effortless for him, I think that was the biggest thing, is that it was just who he was naturally. You never knew what to expect besides expecting something weird, crazy or funny. He always had something up his sleeve.
If youâre a casual or not really into the sport at all, I think the video I made creates a decent storyline and gives you a feel for who Kazushi Sakuraba really was in the ring.
That could be a fun thing to follow now if you make more videos. Which music choices you choose to pair with a fighter and why.
Like with Wanderlei I would think a lot of chaotic fast paced metal choices could fit but then itâs the choices that could be made that you donât expect that could either really work or not fit at all if you make some bold choices.
Highlight videos pre-Youtube were an unsung driving force imo of MMAâs online popularity.
I have a list of some bands for Wandy, they are some of the heaviest bands I know of that wouldnât be totally incomprehensible to regular people lol
I am interested in doing more because this was fun and I got a lot of satisfaction out of the result. I will get better as I keep working. Stay tuned to the thread.
I donât even remember pre-YouTube. It has been so long.
Check out this one from back in the day it was one of my favorites. Donât want to derail your thread but I think you may dig it.
It was a Russian one night 32-Man Tournament from 1995 with some old school UFC/Pride vets in it like Igor Vovchanchyn, Tre Telligman, Mikhail Illiyukin and Ricardo Morais.
It was brutal and I never was a fan of Cradle of Filth but god damn did that song make this video awesome to me and really fit that era and this tournament.
Sherdog had some good highlights pre-Youtube too and they went with U2 - Beautiful Day for Sakuraba which was really odd at the time but also worked. Your video took me back to that era.
This thread is absolutely fantastic
JUNO It
This is cool as shit, Iâd never heard of this tournament before. I love that this song is being used, it works really well, and it helps that this one of my all time favorite songs lol.
I think extreme metal and just metal as a whole is underutilized in shit like this. Iâll have to find this tournament and watch the whole thing.
Thanks for sharing dude. It doesnât derail the thread at all. If you have any other old school stuff to share, please do! Thatâs a big reason why Iâm doing this.
Iâm glad the video did that for you. I try to stay away from video effects and unnecessary transitions - unless I feel it enhances the video.
I also do like longer form stuff and I am kind of an old man when it comes to that. I like tributes that sort of take you on a journey, and thatâs what I was going for.
Donât think I donât notice your comments!
Gorgeous work thank you
Thank you sir
