Article of the Week
Last week, the story that attracted the most eyeballs here at MMAmania.com was superstar Justin Gaethje’s warning to UFC that he’ll retire if he doesn’t get a title shot in his next outing … well, that’s according to his manager, Ali Abdelaziz.
I love Gaethje but give it a rest already…the whole lose fight, win one, get a title shot. win another, get a title shot. It’s getting old.
“Listen, if you’re thinking about retiring, you know how I feel about that, you should probably retire,” White told MMAMania.com during the UFC 317 post-fight press conference (watch here). “We love Justin Gaethje and Gaethje did step up [for UFC 300] and he’s been an exciting and fun fighter to have here in the UFC, but to say unless you give me a title shot otherwise I’m retiring, that’s pretty wacky.”
He’s ranked #3. #2 just got KOed, and #1 has to get another W. So why wouldn’t he ask for it? Some fans are weird.
As for Arman, just fight already. He needs one W, we all know it, yet he hasn’t fought since. WTH is he waiting for?
In a way, Gaethje vs Arman would make sense if Ilia fights Islam or Pimblett. But make sure to pay Justin the big bucks, that’s all.
He has a case for it but hes not in a position to be dishing out ultimatums.
Hes had 2 title fights and got KOd by a FW recently.
Topuria is not the guy he wants to be fighting at this stage of hos career.
Seems pretty clear there are going with Patty and if not him (Arman). I don’t blame them, they can probably make a huge European card in Spain with Topuria-Patty headlining.
Arman faked an injury last minute because he couldn’t make weight.
He has no business being put up there are the forefront for a title shot again without racking up some more wins first.
I think he was the backup for this fight.
Justin the Ultimatum Warrior
Uncle Dana doesn’t do well with ultimatums. I will say I’m a bit more interested in that matchup rather than Pimblet though.
I’m not. Topuria floored Holloway and we all recall what happened in Holloway’s matchup vs Gaethje. Topuria would be way too fast for Gaethje and would leave him munching on the canvas within 1 round.
Paddy probably gets KO’d too; however, at least he’s a real threat on the ground. Plus, I wouldn’t hate seeing him get KO’d.
All of these are good points. I’m curious as to what Jason Parillo’s analysis and game plan would be to deal with him.
