Gervonta Davis vs Lamont Roach - 3/1/25

WBA lightweight champion Gervonta Davis will be returning to the boxing ring in December.

‘Tank’ hasn’t been seen in the cage since a clash with Frank Martin in June. In the main event of an Amazon Prime pay-per-view card, ‘The Ghost’ found some success early against the champion. However, Gervonta Davis closed the show in round six, with a devastating knockout to secure the victory.

Following the win, Gervonta Davis was linked to a few different names. Obviously, a rematch with Ryan Garcia would be entertaining given their feud. However, ‘KingRy’ is currently suspended until April due to a failed drug test following his win over Devin Haney. Davis was also linked to Shakur Stevenson, but a bout between the two failed to come to fruition.

Instead, the WBA lightweight champion will likely meet Lamont Roach in his return. As first reported by Michael Benson of TalkSPORT, Gervonta Davis will face ‘The Reaper’ on December 14th. The two will likely headline another Amazon Prime pay-per-view event, but the location of their fight is unknown.

Gervonta Roach would be a much cooler name.

“Tank” is back!

Yesterday (Fri., Nov. 29, 2024), Premier Boxing Champions (PBC) announced that Gervonta “Tank” Davis will defend his WBA Lightweight World Title against WBA Super Featherweight World Champion Lamont Roach on Sat., March 1, 2025, inside Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.

Davis and Roach were supposed to collide next month on Dec. 14 in Houston; however, no reason was given for the postponement.

Davis (30-0, 28 KO) fought only once this year, but it was a good one. “Tank” crushed Frank Martin in the eighth round with an absolutely brutal two-punch knockout combination that left Martin on his back unconscious (watch highlights). Before Martin, Davis stopped Ryan Garcia with a nasty body punch in a super fight.
Roach (25-1-1, 10 KO) will be moving up from 130 pounds, where he is the WBA Super Featherweight champion, to take on “Tank.” Like his opponent, Roach only fought once this year against Feargal McCrory in a title fight on June 28. The 29-year-old stopped McCrory in the eighth round via TKO. Roach will be riding a six-fight win streak leading into his clash with Davis.

PBC has been a disaster for Tank’s career.
