GSP on Potential Comeback Fight

Georges St-Pierre is not returning to fighting any time soon, but it’s not for a lack of offers.

The Canadian legend hasn’t fought since he retired in 2019, although he has flirted with a comeback in the past. He requested permission from the UFC to box Oscar De La Hoya a few years ago, but they refused to let him. Now he’s completely free from his contractual obligations to that promotion, but he’s still not quite ready to commit to anything.

“I get requests maybe once or twice a month for either fighting in MMA, boxing, wrestling, grappling, whatever,” St-Pierre said in an interview with MMA Junkie. “I had another one for Hype. I just tweaked my back a few weeks ago, and I don’t know if it’s a disk or what it is. It’s a lot better than it was, but I won’t be able to compete this summer.”

“Because also I’m also very busy. I’m not saying I’m never going to do it. Just right now, I’m starting this YouTube channel, and I have a lot of projects, and I want to be competing on my terms.”

St-Pierre has had a love-hate relationship with fighting for a long time and admitted in the past that the stress of competing had become too much for him to put up with.

“I was stressed for a very long period of time in my life,” St-Pierre said. “And in summer I like to keep with my friends, my family to keep the freedom. If I do it, it might be more in fall. Right now I have a lot of projects, and I’m too busy. It’s not the right time for it now.”

“I don’t say no, just right now it’s not the right timing and right now everyone is calling me like, ‘Hey, can you do this?’ I understand. Perhaps one day it will be better timing. Right now, I have other things that I prioritize.”

With Netflix out there splashing big cash to compete on the world’s biggest platform, there’d never be a better time for a big GSP comeback fight. But if that’s gonna happen, we’ll have to wait for at least a little while longer.

Stay retired, bruh.

Few things sadder than a top athlete desperately clinging to their glory days and wrecking their body and their legacy.

Cliffs?

@King_Kong , did I get it on my first try?!

I don’t like Dan Hardey’s idea of a masters division for mma. No one wants to see these guys with their declined skills fight.

44 is way too old to fight. He went out on a high note. I hope he keeps it that way.

If he wants to do wrestling or BJJ tournaments, I think that’s fine. But he’s too old to take punches and kicks to the head.
