Hard Sparring

Looks like the lads in Italy fancy their sparring hard.

Nice consensual hard sparring which is necessary

Naw I’ll keep the head gear on.

I personally think head gear is more detrimental, from my personal experience

For muay thai, I much prefer no head gear with a proper partner

Boxing is different, but even then, I’d rather not wear head gear bc I feel like it makes a bigger target and I e gotten whiplash from getting clipped on the edge of my head gear

Headgear is definitely worth using early on leading up to a fight. Seen a few gashes from accidental headbutts.

But yeah I prefer not using headgear.

Yeah

With clinching in muay thai, head gear absolutely sucks (for me)
And I certainly always clinch when sparring muay thai hard

I hate it

I’ve sparred with out headgear.

Ive never got to train muay thai.

I did amateur P.K.A. kickboxing under
Yvonne Taborn in the St.Louis to Evansville
Area, trained for almost two years at Sullivan’s in Evansville.

I’ve never had a problem checking my ego at the door.

Most guys with egos get weeded out before they get to your level.

For me, personally, it isn’t about ego, it is about my own well being

I’m a lankier guy with a skinnier build and neck…headgear has always been a detriment to me when being clinched or punched

Other guy doesn’t even need to land clean on my head but will nail my head gear, causing my head to whip around

He doesn’t need to get a good clinch, but can pull on my gear

It creates a much bigger target for the other guy to hit (for me)

During clinches is when it gets me too.

Probably everyone.

I probably wouldn’t want to take one from you without headgear and mouthpiece.

Amateur P.K.A. kickboxing, you boxed with
headgear and shin/foot pads on.

The foot strap always aggravated me.

With a guy who can spar without knockout hook shots, I probably could still go without.

Training for smokers or low ammy rules fights with head gear, sparring with head gear is a must, of course, since it is part of those fights

At this point in my life, I’m not competing in smokers or head gear ammy rules, so i spar/ train with self defense/NHB situations in mind, so head gear is a no go for me (again, personally). I also personally don’t think it provides much protection against shots (except protecting my nose, which I don’t care about for the most part) and we use big gloves anyway

I also would rather be without headgear even with the risk against a hard hitter (even though I only hard spar with select people who aren’t trying to KO me 100% power the entire time)

Mouthpiece 100% of the time for sure

I’m not trying to be a tough guy with this. Head gear just gets me fucked up

This what we do!

When Conor got shit for beating up that teenage Italiano kid, I stook up for Conor. That kid been there, done that. That day he just did it by a legend.
