Has anyone ever passed a field sobriety test?

I’ve seen quite a few YouTube videos where people are arrested for dui for either drugs or alcohol after failing the FST and then blowing 0.0 alcohol and months later having the blood test show no drugs.

So the question for cops is have you ever done a field sobriety test and concluded that the person was sober? And for anyone that’s ever done an FST did the cop administering the test ever decide that you were actually sober and fine to drive? Or are FSTs just part of the process to charge you with dui and there really is no practical way to pass them.

I know the advice is to not take them and as an American you have that constitutional right but where I’m from you have to take the FSTs or suffer consequences as bad as getting a dui.

I know plenty of people who have passed FSTs and not gotten arrested, true story.

A few of them were actually wasted, but they were really good at being drunk haha

In Canada they just breathalyze you when they stop you.

Downside of that though is if you’re impaired from something other than alcohol you will pass.

I got pulled over and i was very high on ecstasy and thought i was fucked. I literally got out of my car coming out of a club with glow sticks on my arms lol and sunglasses on at 3 am and he gave me breathalyzer i passed since i only had a single drink that night but i was in rough shape and shouldn’t have been driving. He just thanked me and i was on my way.

i passed 2 of them when I was fucked up
1 time i was on Phenol Barbitol (?)…long crazy story involving being held hostage basically by 2 crazy (and hot!) druggie party chicks during college

it is basically like some tranquilizer where you lose motor skills and slur
i rear ended a car going on to the state highway…luckily it happened on the ramp so i dealt with local cops instead of state troopers

somehow i pased but the cop asked me if i had any “mental or developmental issues” lol

other time i was wasted drunk and drove back home from NYC to nj (i know, total asshole move)i wake up at a traffic light with my foot on the break…cops knocking on my windows and i had been there for 15 mins before neighbors called them

i guess the 15-20 minute nap and the mcdonalds i scarfed (empty bag on my lap) + the adrenaline of getting stopped sobered me up

i passed the balance and the tricky questions shit
when the cop had me balance on 1 leg and estimate when 30 seconds has gone by, I was able to see the glow in the dark arms on his watch and i called 30 seconds on the dot…the cop gavbe me a look like, “you motherfuckerrrrr”

got 2 get out of jail free cards
no arrest no booking
let me drive home both times!

Not proud but I drove drunk many times when a young idiot.
I was always the driver even though most of the time it wasn’t my car.
Cops stopped me and friends like 10 times after following us from the clubs.
Every single time I told them I was the designated driver while my idiot friends laughed.
Never even given a breathalyzer…on my way.

I got pulled over at 2-3 in the morning after a night of drinking. Started drinking at beginning of the evening playing pool with some friends at my house, then went to the bar. I must have had at least a 6 pack throughout, but probably closer to 8-12 beers. I remember not feeling too drunk, so maybe it was the pace I was drinking at?

Got pulled over a few miles from my house. By a miracle of god I passed the breathalyzer, but cop said I failed the field tests. I can’t remember, but they let my equally drunk friend drive, who they didn’t test, or I had to park my car and we walked. I got extremely lucky that night.

Buddy in college passed it and probably would have been over the limit.

Yes.

By minutes, likely.

Me and a friend were at a club, I was 20, he was 21, so he was buying. Waitresses there didn’t wristbands. We got a pitcher of beer and a couple of Long Island iced teas each, chugged them, then decided to leave, and so we chugged the pitcher of beer too. We left the club, my car was nearby, and 3 minutes later I made a bad left turn (no left allowed) right in front of a cop. I got pulled over immediately. They gave me the roadside test, then put me in the patrol car and gave me a breathalyzer test, and I was under the limit. I would bet 10 minutes later I would have failed that test. But they let me go with just a ticket for improper left turn.

This sounds like it deserves a separate thread!

I left a bar where I honestly had 2 vodka drinks and went home. Got pulled over for a tag issue.

I passed the FST with flying colors. He said he is still arresting me for suspicion of DUI. I said cool, I’ll get a copy of the dash cam for my defense and he lied and told me it wasn’t recording. I said I can see it’s on, dude.

Went back to the barracks and blew the breathalyzer and passed. I said cool, have a good night gents, if you can just give me the 15 mile ride back to my car, that’d be great. They said they legally can’t since I admitted I did have 2 drinks… So at like 2 am I was calling anyone I knew to give me a ride and at like 3:15 my buddy came ang got me. Annoying.

I guess I failed one one time. I slipped a disc in my back on a drinking holiday and was driving home after having to lay on my back for a few hours just to be able to move. Before they deemed it illegal, they would just set up shop somewhere and pull everybody over and check to see if people were impaired. Well, my eyes were bloodshot from pain and perhaps being on the edge of tears for five or so hours. They asked me to step out and I gingerly did and went through some of the things but couldn’t do half. Then at the end one other officer that was not talking to me walked over and asked if I was physically hurt and I told him yeah and about my back. He looked at the other younger officer and told him to let me get back in my truck and go on my way. I believe he called the younger cop a dumb shit. Edit to say I tried to tell the first cop but was told to be quiet and do the tests.

The way you do it is you inhale fresh oxygen right before blowing but only keep it in your mouth. When you blow, you only blow the oxygen in your mouth, not from your lungs.

Yes. Will share later

sure have. absolutely hammered.

  1. one definitely over the limit, one after drinking a few but definitely not over, and one stone cold sober when i was 19. i made a left turn on an unprotected green as soon as the light turned green forcing all of the oncoming cars to wait on me. i was on my way to a party to get drunk.

Yes and I’ll never forget it. Back in 2002, left a party with my girlfriend to go take her virginity and on the way back to the party, we got pulled over. I don’t remember exactly what my BAC was but I was under 21 so there was no allowance, but I was definitely drunk when we left the party. Cops had me do the whole test; walking, touching nose, counting, ABC’s, all that shit.

After I was done, they didn’t know what to do and were talking it over. Cop says to me “you’re drunk… holds up breathalyzer … but you’re not DRUNK gestures hand up and down the front of me” so they eventually had my girlfriend call her sister to come pick her up, and told me to drive straight home.

I drove home feeling a mixture of pride, luck and terror. Went in my house for about 15 minutes, and then drove over to my girlfriend’s place to fuck again. She’s now my wife, and we actually just talked about this night not too long ago. That night had a couple other things happen that made the night unforgettable, so it comes up every couple of years for one reason or another.

Both times I was pulled over and made to do the tests, I hadn’t drank a thing. It was so obvious I was sober, the cops aborted the tests shortly after beginning and sent me on my way.

Conversely, I’ve gotten away scot free on no less than 3 occasions when I had been drinking. They’re all long stories but in all of them, we never got to the test because of mitigating circumstances. One of the stories sounds like something out of a Hangover movie.

and there was one where I was still semi-high on E and t-boned another car (no one hurt) at 3am because I wasnt paying attention and missed the stop sign. In that one all I got was a very minor ticket.

I lived a charmed life way back when.

Everyone has passed them without even knowing. Cops are checking you for impairment every time they stop you. I was pulled over for open container, someone called the cops because i was drinking a gatoraid. Anyway cop observes me, asks questions etc and said you’re good. He said cops know whether or not you’re impaired by looking at your eyes. The test are a formality just for court. If they dont think you’re fucked up to begin with, you dont go through the tests, unless they just want to fuck with you

Yes. In fact it is recommended practice to keep a log of everyone whom you perform SFSTs on and if you made the decision to arrest or release. If I was not sure a person was intoxicated, I never made an arrest but for a multitude of reasons alcohol intoxication can be mistaken for other problems.
