Holly Holm says she’s on the verge of retirement, and “The Preacher’s Daughter” wants the biggest match-ups possible for her final fights.
Holm is coming off a two-fight series against Stephanie Han in boxing that saw her lose twice under less than optimal circumstances. The first fight ended on a cut, and not even a bad cut that would have ended a UFC fight. The second saw her get robbed by the judges in a fight most agree she won handily.
That decision loss cost her what may be her last chance to win a boxing championship belt. It also resulted in a big money fight against Katie Taylor going up in smoke. Following all that disappointment, Holm is looking to do something big with the final months of her career.
“I don’t know [what’s next], but if I’m being really honest, I just want big fights,” Holm told Ariel Helwani. “I’m not saying that all of them are big fights for a title, but definitely within the year, I’m done. And that’s where I’m at.”
“So I definitely want them to be fights that people wanna see. I want it to be something big like that. And that’s where I’m at, whether it be MMA or boxing. That’s probably one or two more max if it’s within the year.”
Holm is in a good position with Jake Paul’s MVP, who seem willing to put her in headline spots on their MVPW women’s boxing events or MVP MMA, where they’ve expressed an interest in putting her against Gina Carano. Whatever the case, Holm won’t make a big fuss about her upcoming retirement, but it’s coming.
“I don’t wanna be one of those, ‘It’s my retirement, but not really,’ you know?” Holm said. “The only time I ever did that was when I went from boxing to MMA. I was like, ‘This is my last boxing fight. I’m going MMA full time,’ which wasn’t retiring from fighting. I was just just done boxing at the time, and that was true.”
“I’m not ready quite yet, but I would say in the year, I’ll be done.”
If she were smart, she’d call Ronda a coward and every other name in the book.
“You literally covered your face with a pillow and haven’t been seen since. It’s been a decade and you just came out of your hole. I beat you into retirement. And you have the nerve to say you’d clean my clock? Pleeeease! And you suck at boxing, BITCH!”.
But Ronda would school her in a rematch
Topuria vs Holm!
thats big
Love this! How about “We fought once. I left world champion, you left with a pillow over your face. Come get your revenge any time you want you miserable cunt.”
I was with you until you got delusional at the end. No way Rousey overcomes even 1 solid punch and no way Rousey gets her to the ground easy.
Rewatch that fight and the nunes fights, rousey loses 9 of 10 in her prime and 10 out of 10 now.
She’s going to need a bigger pillow.
Fighting instead of crying… not bad for a woman
