How do you see Sakuraba vs Rickson going realistically?

Yea I think Hendo would have his number. Rickson would be forced to butt scoot the entire match.

Imagine Hélio having to give Hendo a red belt!

Y’all are way too defensive about this - we are talking about him fighting multiple opponents in organized fights in the 1980s correct? Did they not have pen and paper and refs in Brazil at the time? Or Were these fights all organized in secret and took place in caves or underground pitfights? Were legit record keeping and match making forbidden at the time? I mean come on folks!

If you are talking about his infamous 400-1 record, I think it was revealed he was including rolling in class with students for that record.

Ok a guy on Reddit compiled the record of Ricksons mma opponents - should I provide Kleenex to you guys before I post it or will you be ok ..? Let me know

Just shocked to hear you’re on Reddit, faggot.

What’s wrong with Reddit? Wait, do you think this forum is better
?

We don’t need to criticise Rickson’s made up record when Helio can do it for us

“Fought twice in Brazil”

There ya go folks.. a whopping 2 fights in Brazil

Martin Lawrence Lol GIF by Martin

i made quite a lot of money on that fight

the odds makers were terrible at handicapping mma back then

they had royce favored early on

the Gracie family name still had a mystique and Royce’s UFC record, even though it was from an entirely different epoch in the organization, influenced the analysts

but mythos doesn’t really matter when the bell rings. and, of course, the more modern mma athlete won

in that way, there may have been some parallels

I can’t speak for anyone else but I’m not defensive about anything. I have no attachment to Rickson. I guess I’m defensive about reality, maybe

Show me the legit records of all the fights/fighters from the 1980’s.

What else have you seen people claiming here? The two zulu fights plus maybe Duarte. You’re arguing with some fictional person defending the 400-0 record.

Their primes also didn’t have any overlap though. They may have crossed paths on the mats in a tournament somewhere though. Probably not though, I think he got his black belt in the mid 90’s, long after Rickson had retired from everything.

Also I think it’s funny that everyone has forgiven and completely forgotten whatever comical made up record Sperry claimed at one point, 270-something and 0 iirc. I don’t think I’ve ever seen anyone hold his feet to the fire for it the way they do Rickson.

Exactly, Sperry claimed an equally stupid record on extreme fighting 1 and promptly lost to Igor Zinoviev lol. These threads are irritating because it’s always people that have never done anything and don’t understand anything telling people who were actually there that they’re lived experience doesn’t count and they don’t really get it lol. Just a bunch of dorks.

i recall rickson on rogan saying its time to release the yoji anjo fight

he didnt

Zinoviev was legit.

What Frank did to him was eye opening.

Joe was trying to bully him into it lol. Joe has seen it I think, I could be remembering that part wrong.

Wasn’t there some weird conditional where if x number of people signed up for his IBJJF clone he would release the tape? I remember the first time hearing it thinking he wouldn’t go for it.

The good old days of JRE.

Not that it means anything at this point :stuck_out_tongue: and not to reignite an old favorite flame war topic - but I don’t think Sperry tapped. He was exhausted as fuck, yeah, but a guy like him does not tap to exhaustion or a half-assed guillotine. Yeah, that knee opened him up bad, but again, I don’t think he taps to a cut, either. None of those early Brazilian guys tapped to anything, they just absorbed hellacious beatings (Gurgel vs. Kerr, Bitetti vs. Frye, etc.) rather than tap.

Not that that was a smart thing to do, LOL.

All that said, of course his reported 300-0 record was utter bullshit. His actual record was damned good (both BJJ comps and actual fights), good enough it didn’t need any puffery.

I saw it. Rickson gets a body lock, wrestles Anjo to the ground. He slowly works to get mount, Anjo bridges but Rickson bases and goes directly to mount. Rickson has head control and starts to go body head hooks. Anjo shells up and Rickson goes high mount and starts teeing off. Anjo keeps bridging but Rickson keeps hooks and stays on top. Looked like Rickson could have taken the arm but he opts to keep pounding.

Anjo taps but Rickson keeps pounding. Anjo goes to side and keeps tapping, looks like he is giving his neck but Rickson keeps pounding. Rickson isn’t throwing full power, looks like 50%. Finally he lets Anjo go

Have you watched the MMA History podcast episode with Igor and Perretti? There might be 2 of them specifically talking about the Extreme Fighting tournaments.
