How do you see Sakuraba vs Rickson going realistically?

Stop. Rickson had plenty of time to take on a fight with a top 10 fighter but he never did. He fought Takada twice and a washed Funaki

Those early Japan vale tudo tournaments were decent wins but his momentum stopped there.

Anyone with a good eye for mma realizes he would have lost and lost badly had he fought the best .. like said above, he gained much more by not fighting

Yeah, Sakuraba was much better than Anjo, but on his back under Rickson…Sakuraba might as well be Yoji Anjo.

I think it’s very hard for Rickson to get on top of him. But once he’s there, sakuraba is toast. The mount → gift wrap → ground and pound series would be inevitable.

You think that’s worse than what Arona did to Sak?

And you think Anjo was better or at least comparable to Sak?

Also, with Sak we have it all on tape.

He fought for the most money he could get. Any reasonable person would have done the same. Maybe you say you would have challenged yourself, but I’m guessing that you never had to make that choice of fighting the best guys when you’re past your prime versus cashing in on who the Japanese promoters want you to fight.

I think if they fought they would automatically revert to respectable GJJ out of habit and tradition.
And in ok pure GJJ I think Rickson beats Renzo.

But in terms of who was the better MMA fighter by resume – Renzo and it’s not close.

Renzo was the more evolved MMA fighter.
