How much money's should a man my age have?

The S&P basically moves at a 1:1 ratio with the expansion of the money supply, so you are correct. Gold moves at 1.4:1 and bitcoin moves at 8:1 in its short lifespan. Real estate also moves at 1:1. These aren’t constant figures, these are what happens when measured over time.

Not really

Agreed

Id say s&p moves at roughly the rate of inflation + the overall increase in production according to their relative market cap + a little bit (it is a somewhat curated list of stocks)… But what do I know, I’m not an economist.

I got my car back. Was over a grand! They had a seriously hot receptionist who barely looked 18 in a short skirt!

If you think that Apple Microsoft etc have only increased their sales due to inflation… hhhmmm

How many more units are they selling?

How many more teslas is Elon selling compared to 5 years ago.

I’m sure some companies aren’t growing. But s&p 500 companies are growing. & not just because of inflation

I used to work as a security guard but since then I had a customer support type job where I was more of a greater/ helped with enquiries. None of these type jobs offered any chance of promotion. Just to pay teh bills.

You said S&P implying a fund like VOO or SPY. Yes tech companies beat the currency debasement measured by M2. The S&P moves at 1:1 with the money supply. CPI is just made up bullshit that is completely meaningless. I don’t have a house payment yet that’s a big component of CPI while other people have a house payment that makes up 40% of their income so CPI is a useless metric. Measuring M2 is a good way to look at the value of dollars for everyone.

Time to go down the rabbit hole of self education.

I’ve got an economics degree and did some post grad studies but I can easily say the resources I sort out myself have been much more beneficial then university.

I would be interested in that type of thing! I spent £100 on an online course which I should really get round to completing. That aside, I emailed my nearest university about their adult education & part time learning. You can earn a degree that would otherwise take 3 years full time learning, but for part time evening course structure we’re talking 6/7 years!

That’s if you want an actual degree though. I’m sure there’s other options.

You don’t need a degree. It’s a piece of paper to recognise you did the study.

You just need the education.

Listen to finance podcasts. It might be wordy and hard if you don’t have a knowledge base you start off from though

Why does every thread about money turn into a Bloomberg news hour? Average people don’t care and will never care about this stuff. All it does it make things confusing for people who have never invested.

Well the people with nothing always wonder why and what’s different about people that have a lot. I think you just answered that.

Average people do care. It’s why they complain , bitch and moan that the system is rigged against them.

While you have people who had less then them achieve great wealth. That’s the question. Why?

And it’s not because they inherited it or were just lucky.
