Whats the nearest city to you in UK?
Itâs not even about doing formal study.
Do u have actual friends that are successful? What about friends of your parents?
Take them out to lunch or coffee and spend an hour a week or so and expand your knowledge base. Itâs like what u are asking here except irl.
Generally, successful people donât mind sharing their knowledge, but most people donât bother asking.
I cant count the number of times ive seen new businesses open and close next to me over the almost 30 years Iâve been doing it. They could have easily introduced themselves and asked, âhey, Iâm thinking of taking that empty space over here, what can u tell me about the centre/this area?â and boom, I can go off for 30mins straight.
Portsmouth.
Pompey
Iâve never been in there. Joannaâs closed down when I was 16
Well I donât have nothing, Iâm just an average person.
I donât complain that the system is rigged. I donât think OP did either.
They always do.
I didnât say you have nothing, I said you answered why people with nothing wonder what is different between themselves and wealthy people. Itâs because poor people at no point in their life can be bothered with learning about money and how it works.
I donât think thatâs necessarily the case. Simple money advice is one thing. Turning a thread into Bloomberg news hour is another thing entirely.
Thatâs definitely a reason why people with nothing donât learn anything. If they are interesting in learning, there is WAY too much advice out there and it becomes confusing fast.
I agree that a lot of people care to learn about it. But for people who do, you canât expect them to be hip to advice that includes ratios and stock prices.
Yeah, but how do you think anyone starts learning? Everything seems super complicated when you begin but you have to stick with it. Basically the thing in jiu jitsu. Itâs overwhelming for everyone for at least a year or two. Some people dig in, stick with it and become black belts. Some easily accept the lifelong blue belt status and others quit completely because itâs too much. Financial information is the same, as is anything worth learning. If it was easy everyone would be a rich black belt.
Didnât realize Alta laid you off twice bro smhâŚ
Sherdog as a consultant? Are they still a thang?
All kidding aside, my industry is the same so I hear you
Well I agree that if you want to do better then you have to commit to a plan.
But financial advice doesnât have to be complicated, and a lot of people donât want to know all of that shit.
For example. I donât agree with everything he says, but Dave Ramsey gives simple money advice that regular people benefit from. Paying off debt, paying cash, etc⌠all basic and foundational tenets of financial management.
OP didnât say he wanted to be rich. He says he wants to have enough money set aside to retire and be okay in the future.
âBut financial advice doesnât have to be complicated, and a lot of people donât want to know all of that shitâ
âOP didnât say he wanted to be rich. He says he wants to have enough money set aside to retire and be okay in the future.â
OP said he is 37 - he was 17 20 years ago and I assume it went like a blink of the eye (it did for me). The next 20 will go slower but you are older (and getting older) and have to recoup for lost time.
Having (and planning) for a nest egg requires planning and disclipine. I know a ton of moronâs that lived the yolo life and still have a huge mortgage, lease vehicles and barely surviving and they are hitting 45+ relying on a corporate jobâŚ
Fair enough. Dave Ramsey is a perfect example for why I donât give simple advice. If you truly refuse to learn and grow your knowledge then his advice is good for you. If you will learn and grow your knowledge his advice will absolutely hold you back. Heâs probably correct in giving his advice as the majority of people arenât smart and arenât interested in learning. I just canât assume everyone I talk to on here is a dumb shit so I give the best advice I can.
Everything you say is spot on to the way I think.
Itâs insane
Donât worry OP, 66.2% of people in the US are living check to check just like you.
âHow can you make your money make more money for youâ
Did you read a blog on investing when you got fired from your pretend job at Alta?
