How sustainable is DDP’s style?

His style looks awkward and throws off opponents, but I don’t agree with anyone calling it “goofy” or likening it to a barroom brawler.

He covers up well defensively to punches and has great timing on his counters and blitzes.

Agreed. Guys who do things “technically wrong” but still make it work often become champions. Guys you cant train for.

I’d much rather watch a guy like DDP fight than countless textbook fighters that all look and fight the same that fill most of the UFC roster.

I still think he’s wide open for some good knees to the belly though.

I would love to see him vs Khamzat. Khamzat likely can’t ragdoll him because he’s too strong and has a judo base. And won’t be able to out tough him either.

If Khamzat could stay consistently healthy, I think we’d all love to see him fight for the title.

I don’t think it’ll happen though. Some weird shit is up with that guy.

If Israel couldn’t counter ko him you have to wonder who can.

There is method behind his madness and he’s athletic and strong af.

He also happens to be a kickboxer. He knows what he’s doing. I will not underestimate him any longer.

Yeah he’s a lot smarter than he is being given credit for. He is making adjustments in all of his fights. I thought Israel made better adjustments but it didn’t matter in the end. DDP’s striking defense is 54% which is pretty damn good considering his style, Adesanya is 56% and Strickland is 61%. If you would have asked me what the number was, my guess would have been 20%.

DDP keeps those hands up high. Izzy kept landing punches to the body clean. DDP seemed wide open for a good knee to the belly. A great one could have finished him I think.

I think he is going to lose every fight he is in. He doesn’t look very good. Slow punches, often winging and leaping with them. Always looks gassed. Awkward footwork.

Yet the dude just keeps winning. After he beat Strickland I said I would never doubt him again.

He has other intangibles that make up for some of the other stuff. He hits really hard, is very strong for the weight class, does very well when on top grappling. And a never ending will to win.

He really has that. I mean, we’d expect everyone in MMA to have it, but somehow, you sense that more with him.

Yet it is also true that the win over Strickland was a VERY close one, and could have gone either way.

How does he fare against Pereira should he move up to face him, or Belal if he moves up?

His wrestling heavy style and awkward striking will probably stifle Belal, and as much as I hate to say it, he has a good chance of taking Pereira down and choking him out.

It wouldn’t shock me if DDP goes on an epic run.
