Getting hit a lot and pushing the pace doesn’t seem like the formula for a long distinguished title run, but it’s working so far.
Very goofy and awkward style.
Seems like a really in shape dude just going out and fighting at a bar, but like you said, it works for him.
I like him, by the way.
Wasn’t talking shit, in case he lurks here.
I like him too but Jesus Christ, what a sloppy mess.
Page first broke into the wrestling business in 1988, as a manager in the American Wrestling Association,[1] where he worked for nine months before signing with WCW in 1991. There, he continued as a manager until late 1991, when he became a wrestler.[1] Over a decade in WCW, Page became a three-time WCW World Heavyweight Champion,[1] two-time WCW United States Heavyweight Champion,[1] four-time WCW World Tag Team Champion[1] and one-time WCW World Television Champion. He is the fourth WCW Triple Crown Champion,[1] and the only United States Heavyweight Champion to defend the title in a pay-per-view main event, defeating Bret Hart at the 1998 World War 3.
After WCW was sold in 2001, Page signed with the WWF where he made his pay-per-view debut in the main event of July’s Invasion show, and went on to become a one-time WWF European Champion and one-time WWF World Tag Team Champion. Due to a series of injuries, he allowed his contract with the company to expire in 2002.[1] He worked for TNA from 2004 to 2005, challenging for the NWA World Heavyweight Championship in the main event of Destination X 2005.
He had a 17 year career in a tough sport. I’d say his style was reasonably sustainable.
Yeah but the yoga
Yoga is completely unsustainable. It turned him into a complete soy boy.
It’s a young man’s style, not something that will age gracefully for him. It’ll work until it doesn’t and then he’ll have a steep losing streak
If Israel couldn’t counter ko him you have to wonder who can.
There is method behind his madness and he’s athletic and strong af.
He also happens to be a kickboxer. He knows what he’s doing. I will not underestimate him any longer.
He’ll be fine until he hits 35-36
Yeah he’s a lot smarter than he is being given credit for. He is making adjustments in all of his fights. I thought Israel made better adjustments but it didn’t matter in the end. DDP’s striking defense is 54% which is pretty damn good considering his style, Adesanya is 56% and Strickland is 61%. If you would have asked me what the number was, my guess would have been 20%.
People already forgot that Strickland lost a close decision in a fight everybody thinks he won.
Or if he get’s “solved” sooner, and either loses his confidence or takes a lot of damage. Or both.
DDP keeps those hands up high. Izzy kept landing punches to the body clean. DDP seemed wide open for a good knee to the belly. A great one could have finished him I think.
He went 4 rounds against Adesanya and got only the mandatory rest suspension that’s 15 days. He finished Till, Brunson, and Whittaker in 7 months. It’s absolutely sustainable.
In addition to that, I think what he’s smarter than many other fighters about is he fights when he’s healthy enough for the opponent. He rejected Adesanya for UFC 300 because he injured both legs against Strickland. Knew it’d be a tough fight and no point rushing into it. He gets surgery for his ailments when he needs it and takes time to rehabilitate. Knows himself well and takes good care of himself.
Fightwise, I think like Strickland, he presents the problem that he’s very tough and durable. It’s exhausting to throw everything and the kitchen sink at someone and get nothing for it. Unlike Strickland, his cardio appears to fade fast, but somehow the same doesn’t apply to his freakish power. He’s as dangerous moving like the walking dead in the 5th round as the 1st.
I would love to see him vs Khamzat. Khamzat likely can’t ragdoll him because he’s too strong and has a judo base. And won’t be able to out tough him either.
His style looks awkward and throws off opponents, but I don’t agree with anyone calling it “goofy” or likening it to a barroom brawler.
He covers up well defensively to punches and has great timing on his counters and blitzes.
He’s not sloppy.
