Islam Scolds Jones for ‘Breaking the Rules’ in UFC Career

Jon Jones defended his past after two-time rival Daniel Cormier continued to question his case as the greatest UFC fighter of all time. Cormier has repeatedly dismissed Jones’ GOAT case due to multiple failed drug tests during his career, particularly ahead of their scheduled rematch at UFC 200 that fell apart.

Cormier puts UFC Hall of Famer Khabib Nurmagomedov, his longtime teammate, atop the UFC GOAT list. UFC welterweight champion Islam Makhachev also makes an intriguing case after winning belts in multiple weight classes.

Jones recently took to social media to mock his longtime rival Cormier’s recent GOAT comments, and encouraged Makhachev to continue on his current trajectory. After Jones’ remarks went viral, Makhachev didn’t exactly respond with kindness.

“Jon, I’m not trying to diminish your achievements in any way. But your whole life seems to be tied to breaking the rules one way or another,” Makhachev tweeted.

“And somehow, you’re never the one to be blamed.”

Jones has questioned Makhachev’s case as the greatest fighter of all-time after a brutal knockout loss earlier in his UFC tenure. Makhachev recently surpassed Anderson Silva’s UFC record win streak by defeating Ian Machado Garry at UFC 330.

As of this writing, Jones hasn’t responded to Makhachev’s tweet. He’s expected to be in Gable Steveson’s corner this weekend for the talented heavyweight’s fight at UFC 331.
