It's time for an UPGRADE - All users will soon be able to join!

Damn, this thing blew up faster than I expected.

I’m going through the steps right now to get us a dedicated server and domain name.
Apologies to those who aren’t able to join atm.

Check back this evening and everything should be up and running for you.

If anyone is particularly good at web development, please hit me up, as that would speed along the process.

Thanks! I’m very excited to have a dedicated OG running at full blast.

Would you recommend self-hosted or managed? I started fucking around with self-hosted a while back but the transactional email setup was a fairly large annoyance (for me personally).

Do you need a couple bucks to get it going?

Responded to you in another thread:

I’m totally open to going the easy automated route. I just don’t know what the best/most transparent way of funding the site is since that would probably end up being a $100-300/mo.

It seems like the easiest way though.

I’m currently looking into the Digital Ocean route, as I can just pay for it myself each month if it isn’t a crazy amount.

Do we have an idea for this? I wanted to call it Asunderground but the .com wasn’t available and I thought the oldies wouldn’t know how to get there. I bought wildeachit.com instead and had it forward to wildeachit.lol with the intent of setting the forum up on subdomain i so it would ultimately be i.wildeachit.lol - yes I’m a faggot :joy:

Lol!

Let’s use that one too.
I have a less exciting one lined up…

Yeah, I setup an email and mail gun account but just didn’t have the time to take it farther than that. I’m writing this from my kids play pen right now

Copy that. Getting into it now. Will let you guys know if it’s over my head.

Went to go let the folks at MMA.tv know what’s up, and well…

If you’re cool setting it up on DO with Mailgun I can point the domain in the right place.

I can start by moving the mail from my personal to its own account and giving everyone access so all the accounts can be in one place?

Once we have all the infrastructure’s figured out I have no problems transferring the domain entirely.

Not so much web development but I can uh… tape all your buns together…

I think we can run something like this:

Link it directly to a payment gateway and let people donate.

Or let user subscribe:

Wordpress has endless fully-featured options for donations that show how much you need for the month and how much you’ve raised toward that goal but the pickens seem slim for discourse/static sites. Maybe someone here knows of something. I’ll keep digging though.

Yeah, let us know if you need some money Oinkage.

@HiroProtagonist if we want to use the wildeachit domain I already created an admin email and mailgun account. I can send you the credentials to connect it to a DO droplet and then we should be able to migrate everything from here over fairly seamlessly? Then we can setup PayPal’s and other OG related shit under the admin emails. What do you think @Onikage ?

I’m thinking the OG can sustain the cost of a DO/Mailgun combo but I fear donations will fall off and we won’t be able to recoup the monthly cost on a managed discourse. I could be wrong though.

Are you saying that we setup a server and host discourse vs paying for discourse hosting monthly?

Yep - that’s what I am working towards now.

I want the OG to be as independent as possible, so I think this is the best route.

Ok great. Let me know if you need help. I have no experiance with discourse but have setup hosted forums in the past. Those hosted discourse prices seem insane. For 300 a month you could rent a monster server.

I wasn’t thinking about taking over. More like cumming together.

I don’t think any single one of us has the resources to handle this alone right now though.

Again, I would like to offer my assistance in any way possible. I work in cyber so I’m sure I can help out with getting things setup.

If we need hosting and crap like that, I can help as well.

Time is my resource constraint. I know I could do it if I didn’t have a newborn to manage right now.
