Morning fellas
As everyone knows, I’m an old, very mediocre black belt. But a legend in my own mind.
All three of my kids have never had a second of interest in jiu jitsu, even though they see it is a big part of my life.
They were all basketball players, and I coached them all throughout youth basketball. I
m a great coach BTW, and got my oldest girl the skills to play up to the collegiate level.
But no jiu jitsu for any of them. My youngest boy is 17. He knows all the places I teach at, and I’ve always given him an open invite to come train.
I just got a text from him.
“Hey can I start training jiu jitsu this month?”
Sent him back
“Sure pal. Where do you want to go? **** gym? ---- gym? Or you want to train ol’ Mithras BJJ?”
“Mithras BJJ”
I’m a happy fella. Hope I dont screw this up.
Any experience training with your kids, getting them to love this pajama wrestling?

Hmmmmm Not sure how that equates ? I mean …
Congrats.
I’m jealous. My son hates jujitsu.

Yeah exactly what I’m trying to avoid.
Did your kid train for a while and develop the hatred or just hated it from afar?

Oh you know exactly how it equates.
I could probably beat Derek Moneyberg, and I teach very well, but I fall in the category of people that Danaher describes as terrible black belts .

Im Not an expert on the teaching end but a sensei thought enough of your skill level to award you a BB_CTT_PTT

Haha no way.
In addition to mediocre jiu jitsu, I also have mediocre wrestling and bad judo.

He’s been in it for about a year. He can quit at the end of this year, provided he finds another activity.
When it was just him and I rolling at home, he loved it. Then it became a thing he had to go to and drill and that’s not nearly as fun.

Taught my boys for a while, it was a blast. They just kinda segued out as they hit 12-14 and started doing stuff they really wanted to pursue (tennis, band, golf, etc.). Also sent them to the local club for a while, but I think it rubbed them the wrong way by pushing so hard for sporting competitions.

Jiu jitsu makes one’s sperm weak, obviously.

This is what I’m afraid of. My oldest is 10 and has been training since he was 5, and is a grey & black belt. He openly talks about not liking it much and tries to stay home from practice when he has the opportunity. I used to push back on that but the last year or so I’ve been more lenient. Letting him train Muay Thai and wrestling, taking days off, training 1 hour instead of 2. I definitely don’t want him to hate it when he’s older

That is wonderful.
I hope you and your Son have fun doing it and hope he continues in your footsteps on his warrior path.
Very cool.

He just walked in from school. Asked him how his day was.
Then said let me show you something, and we worked turning a clinch into a whizzer kick throw in our living room.
After 5 mins I said see you later and headed out to go to work.
