Jiri/Ulberg is a decent fight but not a quality headliner imo.. It’s a decent card .. that’s it
Since they’ve got to 40 cards a year, it’s been going bad.
But since the deal with Paramount, it has been shit. Part of it is “bad luck", fights that just sucked. Sports can be unpredictable. I mean, its not like they wanted bad fights!
But a lot has been that they seem to now only focus on short term profits for juicy report to stockholders, while not giving a fuck about the sport itself… while having bought the UFC for SEVEN BILLION DOLLARS. How dumber can you be? Protect and grow your asset!
I’m still baffled they decided to play cheap for the WH card, which has crazy worldwide exposure. WTF. Just pay the fighters! They’d make it back in spades.
Now with competition from amateur wrestling paying their stars, Netflix, etc. they need to step up. Such short term thinking idiots at TKO.
They should have gotten rid of Dana then.
“I know! Let’s have Jon Jones string everyone along more! That’s helping get us views right? Right?”
I would like to see them play around with the rules. Other sports paly around with rules to make better tv products. Why are we forever stuck with 5 minute rounds? Why do they have to let them try and work more in the clinch? Why does the guy who gets knocked out not get a ko bonus of 25 k?
I havent hated it except that paramount as an app sucks. Rewinding and stuff is a pain for me.
Then again I am not as hardcore as we all were 10-15 years ago. I barely know who is fighting until a couple days prior.
i think they must be scared of setting a precedent if they give in these negotiations too much. because i completely agree with you that it doesn’t make sense to pinch pennies for the wh card.
Did you guys see the Jones vs Sala fight? That was one of the best fights I’ve seen in a long time. TBH I think the quality of fighters is extremely high in the UFC right now. The celebrity factor, which I don’t care about, is low. If you love fights and fighters, you are probably enjoying UFC.
Now that is ATHLETIC COMMISSION stuff. Sadly, not for them to decide.
Only top stars would really get paid. And unless it’s a special card, they can play hardball just like before. They stupidly raised the stakes themselves by paying that barely known boxer 15m! Yet won’t pay top dollars to fill the WH card? It doesn’t make any sense!
If they want to draw in stars, they have to pay, period. Conor would have stayed making money for the UFC if not for the big boxing payday. JBJ would fought at least 3 more times. And so on. Money draws money.
Even us hardcore fans are pissed now! They are ruining their own brand.
Bc if they can play around with the rules, that invalidates the official unified rule set which may allow competing organizations in the US to come up with a better product.
Who cares. Karate combat made up new rules every event until they got it right and they can make more changes. There is no reason not to make changes to make the sport better except decodinng to do nothing.
thats not true. they have ability to make more with higher views
Use all the emojis you want, facts are facts. The UFC did change its rules many times at first. But then the sport was straight up banned. You think the UFC liked the damn 12-6 elbows ban that just got recently finally removed? Or they enjoy the many restrictions they have now? It’s athletic commissions deciding that. That you like or not doesn’t change facts.
Now they probably could change rules when they’re outside the US though.
At the end of their extended contract?
They are at the mercy of what another group will pay them without PPV.
99% of UFC fights have become the average mid-season baseball game between two below .500 teams. Nobody really gives a fuck
Do you still watch? Because I call bullshit on this. The fights are awesome actually overall. The WWE style “XTreme” shit talk is just stale.
They have no stars people want to watch. Pretty simple. Their big “star” the last however many years was Jon Jones. Jones has never been a big draw though, and now they don’t even have him. Not that he’s much of a loss anyway
I totally agree and we are actually coming to the end of an incrediblY great era of guys like Porier, Max, Olivera, Toporia, Volk, Chandler , Connor, Khabib, Justin, etc. all fighting each other.
