Tell your son, he never gave up. He went out on his shield. That will always make him a winner.
Do you have a pic/video of this manuever?
Donāt think you overreacted if the ref fucked the call, thats your boys neck and brains.
Tough seeing your kid go limp and be defenseless.
Much of what you said is true. As a competitor and as a Coach, I always explained to my athletes that they had to cause enormous pain to their opponents. More than 50% of high school kids find their backs because they wonāt accept pain.
Just beat the fuck out of the ref already. Then choke his ass out
Thereās a ton of squeezes in wrestling that can choke you out, need to learn to defend them or concede the pin.
kid still should have tapped to let ref knowā¦Ref may have stopped match
choke is illegal in wrestling Ref should stop potentially dangerous
I spoke to one of his coaches this week and he told me the ref admitted that he messed up. Weāll just have to live with it.
great thread. sorry about your kid man. heāll be ok. sounds like heās a stud. and you did the right thing. nobody is gonna watch out for him better than you will.
i will say around his age itās a delicate balance between challenging him (exposing him to the high schoolers) and building confidence and becoming accustomed to winning. in hind sight it wouldāve been better for me to do more of the latter around that age.
but you know your kid way better than me. just musing over here.
He starts his rec league next week. There is a good chance he goes undefeated this year there. He wrestled some high schoolers this weekend and went 2-3. He weighed 112lbs but they wrestled him at 123 because the other 114lber who was a high schooler didnāt want to wrestle up.
Iām trying to figure out how to get him ready to qualify and place at states this year. We are hoping he can place ar folkstyle, freestyle, and greco this year. The goal is by 14 he goes to Fargo to represent PA.
man thatās a lot of weight to give up to kids that much older than you
Yeah, the high schooler didnt want to give up 7lbs because he said he cut weight even though my kid weighed in at 111lbs for 116lbs. He rather my son give up 12 lbs so he could wrestle down. My son still gave all the kids tough matches. We will use it as a learning experience.
Best of luck to your son with his wrestling.
Sorry to hear about that OP, is your son doing okay? My son is wrestling in his first season this year, sounds like the PA scene is pretty serious.
He is doing good now. PA is the best wrestling state in the country. Lots of high level wrestlers from the corn fields of the state. My son started wrestling at 6 for 6 months. He took about 4 years off and started back up in 2022. He has progressed very rapidly. There arenāt many kids his age and weight in the state that will beat him. We are hoping he places at PJWs this year at 12u and 115lbs.
Update; my son won PA states.
