Interesting tale of legendary Larry Holmes forgotten younger brother, 10 years younger Mark Holmes.
Living in Larry’s shadow certainly took a toll on him, both inside the ring and out.

Even in the interviews talking about how he’s going to be his own man he’s wearing a Larry shirt or a Larry hat lol
Larry Holmes was hilarious without trying to be. I didn’t know he had a brother who also boxed. I can see them walking through Easton on their way to train as kids.
Larrry went on to be a successful business man who gave back to the community from what I understand.
What sort of diet do you follow while training?
Larry: I like eggs.
Some say you are only taking this fight for the money …
I came here in a Cadillac.
It’s always tough on the less talented sibling.
Noone ever heard of Rigoberto Alvarez, Jose Cotto, Hughie Fury.
I spent two weeks in the Holmes camp as a sparring partner for Mark as he prepared for his fight vs top contender, John Collins back in 1985. It was a busy camp as Larry was there at the Larry Holmes Training Center every day too, training for his title defense vs Michael Spinks.
Mark was an excellent boxer, but he was a mediocre puncher at best & he had a vulnerable chin. I wobbled him a couple of times & I was only a welterweight at the time. And, unfortunately, his chin let him down against Collins, as he was belted out in two short rounds.
He looked tentative in that fight, like he either over trained or maybe he was suffering from the damage you gave him ![]()
Best boxing documentary on the planet. His most recent video about Sam Langford is a must watch.
Holmes said he’s the only black man in America that owns the building or the property that the jail is on
His wife talked about when they first started dating he stole the change out of her ash tray.
Holmes was right, Marciano couldn’t carry his jock strap and he would have wrecked Tyson had he been in his prime
He was tentative because Collins was a huge step up from the opposition that he’d faced in his previous 35 fights.
What’s funny is that the victory over Holmes almost got Collins a title shot vs Hagler that would have taken place in his hometown of Chicago. Hagler had defended his title against Mustafa Hamsho a couple of years earlier & the card was a big success. So, they wanted him to go back against a hometown boy.
Unfortunately. the powers that be wanted Collins to fight one more fight vs Hagler’s brother Robbie Sims to prove he was a legitimate threat & to create a revenge motive for Hagler. Collins was a favorite, but all the plans for a Hagler title fight went out the window as Sims destroyed him in the first round, ending Collins’ career.
Long Live Billy.
I love the stories and knowledge.
