Against royce

Rickson vs Nakai was legit. Nakai wanted to kill Gracie backstage he couldnt wait. Unfortunately, Nakai was too small and was fighting half blind. Gordeau robbed us of a great welterweight.

Royce had brass balls. He would fight anyone no matter size or background. I think the Gracies were very protective of Rickson in the fact that when Royce lost he could always be the legendary family figure in the background they could claim was actually the best Gracie but no one could afford to pay him enough thus keeping the family legacy and invincibility in the clear.

Renzo and Royler fought anybody the promoters put in front of them

They all did except Rickson.

Yeah, I think Rickson was too wrapped up in the mystique of being ‘undefeated’

No professional fighter goes undefeated for life when they are fighting in a ring with rules. His family members embraced that fact, but he couldn’t seem to.

As I recall even Helio said his record was bullshit or inferred it at least

I don’t think Rickson was afraid of losing personally but more worried about the damage it might deal to his families reputation if he did since all the other Gracies already had losses on their records.

Excellent point.

Yes!

He scoffed at it because even he knew it was absurd!

“If you count all fights like everybody else does, including Rickson, who says he has 400 fights; if you count like that, I have a million.”

Frye vs Takiyama was a work

Hey Debraco I hadn’t seen you since the move to the new site. Glad you’re still around.

True.

But neither of them (nor anybody else) was in on it

Funaki was Rickson’s best opponent. And he did fracture Rickson’s eye socket in this fight.

Ryo Chonan’s flying heelhook had to be a work, no?

No, the helio faction chose judiciously, to mitigate the chance of loss. There’s a limit to the number of “moral victories” one can wrack up before it reflects negatively on the product
