Well I never got around to doing that push/pull workout today. But I did get in some good cardio.
Iām in my mid-40s, but still hit PBs in the gym and feel basically the same as in my late-20sā¦except fatter.
This time last year, I weighed 123kg at 5ā8 which had long since crossed the line from ābeefy powerlifterā to āDom DeLuiseā.
I dropped 6kg in a month when I was in Thailand and decided to keep the roll on to a semi-reasonable weight. I swore off soft drink and takeaways and mostly eat rice, vegetables and chicken breast (when itās on special), which also saves me a small fortune ever week. Iām down to 107kg and actually have visible abs again.

You leave uncovered meat in the fridge to marinate?
Anyway good to have you onboard, do you still compete in PL? I gave up after the scene turned gay AF
Labels are unnecessary but I like to think of myself as a strength enthusiast now but only irl no way I could sit and watch a meet now fuck that
The meat only sits there for a maximum of two nights.
I havenāt comped in Lifting in over 20 years. I donāt really squat or powerclean much now, but generally lift more than I did in my 20s.
Think itās time to take a few days off. Was considering a deload of sorts. But I feel like my elbow will benefit more from complete rest in this case. Gonna stick with the cardio and legs and come back to a lighter upper body routine in a few days.
Pulled 405 x 5(straps) without a belt yesterday following my working sets with deads. Probably could have got 8 so making progress here. 8 months post bicep tear. BW was 185 on the dot. As mentioned before(I think) do 5 sets of 3 for deadlifts and squats. 5x5 with bench. Really donāt want to do any more than 5 reps on compounds right now. Will rep out on assistance. We just got a belt squat machine so looking forward to using that. It was taken up yesterday so after deadlifting did the v-squat machine, facing into it, for 5 pps x 10 and 4pps x 19. Cardio today in a few mins. 12 fifteen second bursts at the max resistance(25) on the bike every minute. Do like 25 minutes total with a warm-up and cooldown. Plan to have about 1.5 lb of ribeye post workout and will likely do 80/20 beef, 1.5 lbs, for dinner.
Thats super good beltless. I dont do anything over 315 without a belt anymore.
Excellent work - esp beltless.
A bit of a setback hereā¦tweaked my damn left shoulder again of all things working under the dash of my carā¦still benching moderately heavy, but some sessions I have to back off a bit. Progression on holdā¦Frustrating but its just the way it is. Deadlifts going ok and starting to get used to SSB for squats. And so it goes
Safety Bar is an awesome squat variation, especially for those with nagging shoulder stuff.
Did a metcon today agter shoulders. Kb swings, farmer carries, 30 seconds bike, sandbag picks. Hardest part was the farmers, but sandbags have a way of humbling you.
Sexy
Not a PR but most Iāve deadlifted in nearly 2 years: 395x4. Now if I can get this damn shoulder to behaveā¦
Lets fucking go!
What shorts do you guys squat in? I always squatted in cotton shorts but bought a few pairs of under armor and 2 of them have split down the side seam. They are like $50 a pop so not happy
The iron reb embossed shorts or born primitive jorts lol
I like the feel and added support from compression shortsā¦previously used Rehband now using Cerberus.
I use these for strongman comps for sure. Dont train in them tho, to much of a hastle to put them on lol.
People who stand or walk close to you when youāre squatting
Cut their hands, feet and tongues off
So just an update. Ive been expirimenting with the āsugar dietā that was all over my youtube algorithym. In 6 weeks i have gone from 308 to 276. My blood sugar has been amazing actually, im a type 2 diabetic. This has led me down a rabit hole of reading about the Walter Kempner and the Rice Diet and how it cured type 2 diabetes. It has also led me down the research that long term carnivore and keto diets making people insulin resistant. Im only doing it for another 2 weeks then im going to to into strongman offseason to prepare for my masters strongman run in 2026.
My workouts have been super good since im so full of carbs. My diet has been mainly fruit with sugar on it. Every 3-4 days ill have a dinner with about 100gms of lean protein and starchy carbs.
I did go to nashville for a week where i ate everything and gained about 10lbs of water.
Im actually pretty satisfied, some nights tho i do crave protein and if i do ill usually have some.
Watching my blood sugar with my glucose monitor is what has been super crazy.
Muscle wise i dont feel like ive lost to much: i saw a powerlifting buddy a few days ago and he says its the leanest ive ever looked.
I have a long 3 month training coming up end of july that will be pretty physical so my goal was to cut to 250 as fast as possible. Ill be on my feet all day wrestling with 90-110lb working dogs. So i wanted to save my back and knees. So i just wanted to do this to see how my body and blood sugar reacted. Just figure you guys would be interested.
While there ill still continue high carb, moderate lean protein, low fat diet while there. Carbs will be from fruit, rice, and potatoes. Protein will be lean beef, chicken, egg whites, and yogurt.
Training will be the off season strogman training progran my buddy is writing for me and jiu jitsu on my rest days. Hopefully maintaining 250-260 bodyweight and continuing to recomp.
Thatās pretty damn interesting. About how much protein you think youāre getting on average?
