Melvin Guillard was once considered one of the most explosive fighters in the UFC. With devastating knockout power and elite athleticism, many believed he had all the tools to become a world champion.
Then Hurricane Katrina changed everything.
As New Orleans descended into chaos, Guillard claimed he helped rescue around 100 people, transporting survivors to safety in one of the darkest moments in the city’s history. It should have been the moment that defined his legacy.
Instead, his life took a very different path. Drug addiction, suspensions, failed title opportunities, arrests, prison, and years fighting around the world turned one of MMA’s brightest talents into one of its greatest what-ifs.
This is the complete story of Melvin Guillard—from wrestling prodigy and UFC knockout artist to Hurricane Katrina hero, convicted inmate, and a man who never stopped searching for redemption.
He was very good and a mega dipshit, why is he in prison?
This?
Former UFC and Bellator fighter Melvin Guillard is not currently in jail, though he faced significant legal trouble in Colorado. In 2018 and 2019, Guillard was arrested and later pleaded guilty to assault charges connected to violent bar and club altercations in Denver
Melvins later career was very rough to watch for me.

Loved watching the young assassin get his ass kicked
Blaming his failures on Katrina is bizzare. He made it to the UFC after Katrina and had countless opportunites to succeed for many years. His failures are because he was an idiot and made bad choices in life.
But I really did enjoy his fights. They were nearly always entertaining.
I am not surprised. He seemed destined for prison
This lol, Like one of the dumbest things ever, completely retarted. Dude was a killer but had a china chin. Not much more to it than that, certainly nothing “Katrina” had to do with it lolol…
