Yeah that’s what it sounded like to me but it doesn’t make any sense. We know the story is real because Rampage has confirmed it, but I haven’t heard Rampage blame Chris Brennan.

It makes more sense that Rampage owed child-support payments, and they thought he might flee the country.

Amazing work on this @MMAHistoryPodcast ! I’m not sure what I expected from Rafiel Torre after all these years, but he really didn’t want to come clean on any of his false accolades or wrong doings from the past. Still sticking to the story that Eddie Bravo never called him out and if he did they would throw down over it, his fake fight was totally legit, he was a highly skilled martial artist, etc. Maybe there is truth in that if you believe your own fabrications for long enough then they become your reality? Who knows. Interesting his thoughts on @GSTREBENDT regarding training. Apparently according to Rafiel he was just too much for Gerald? Hit too hard in training so he had to send Gerald elsewhere. I would say the truth is Gerald needed a much higher brand of training and that’s why he went to Chris Brennan’s gym.

Not getting into his legal troubles and reasons for being locked up, but it sounds like Rafiel has found likely not peace, but at least a coping mechanism with performing magic for inmates and prison staff. I believe it’s quite possible that if he would have just been honest about his credentials with his peers in the beginning and approached the sport as someone who was a fan and wanted to learn that he could have still had a successful career in mma journalism. He started on the wrong foot and that led him further and further down the spiral.

Very interesting his stories from his time in the sport. He was witness to some huge moments. His Ken Shamrock/Mark Hall story definitely lines up with everyone else’s who was in attendance. Interesting he never caught wind of Mark Kerr’s issues during the time he was involved with him. Maybe they weren’t so close where he would have known anything. I remember that Kerr/Borisov fight. I remember feeling badly for Borisov after that one. His neck probably wasn’t right for a long time.

I think I can speak for everyone in this mentally ill community that we all greatly appreciate the work you do (Mike, Joey, etc.) @MMAHistoryPodcast bringing amazing content like this to life every single week. Another great episode and here’s to the next 300 shows!
