This is the main one that always comes to mind for me.
Steve Bossé
A former North American Hockey League enforcer and one of the most feared fighters in his league, Bossé transitioned to MMA with a record of 10-1 (8 KOs) on Sherdog STRENGTH FIGHTER. His hockey background gave him a strong chin and knockout game, and he was considered one of the few NHL enforcers worth mentioning in MMA circles
Not trying to be rude but I don’t think you know much about hockey. It’s short quick shifts with rest in between. The average ice time is only something like 16-17 minutes a game and average shift length is 45-50 seconds or so.
As for Chara against Adam’s? Chara was 6’ 7”, 250 and liked to fight. His father was a Greco wrestler in the Olympics and trained him in his youth as well.
I’m thinking linebackers at HW, assuming some wrestling background. The conditioning is there. Used to mixing it up with big guys, but still fast/explosive relative to HW. Physical power should generally translate into punching power assuming there is some natural ability there (athletes don’t live in a bubble). HW frame/bone structure ideally have a solid chin.
Hockey players.
All things being equal, I’ll take the tough white boy.
Basketball players present a height and reach problem. But almost every basketball fight I seen was sloppy inaccurate punches with bad form. More bark than bite.
But with any of these there are intangibles that would be more important than whatever sport they came out of.
Other than NHL guys since they actually fight in their sport, id have to go with mlb guys. Definitely taking mlb over nba or nfl for sure. Besides hockey baseball is the only sport that has fist fighting as a semi regular occurrence.
Jeff garcia was a known guy not to fuck with NFL wise. NBA James Johnson is a name people mention with a martial arts background and potential ammy fights. MLB more recently Tim Anderson showed a solid chin. NHL they fight on ice. On concrete they completely fall apart MMA is not an option
Fresh off the street, hockey goons. By a country mile.
6 months of sprawl training, gimme an nfl idiot. Hardy did ok in the ufc. Michael Westbrook is a great 1 to use here. Dude was an athletic freak. Got his bjj black and is a monster on the mat. Send him to Iowa City and then Phuket for a year, good luck. Dude had no standup and beat Jarrod Bumch in kotc.
