MMA legend Francis Ngannou has explained why his focus moving forward is on fair pay as opposed to his legacy.
As we know, Francis Ngannou is one of the scariest power punchers in the history of mixed martial arts. He has achieved some truly wonderful things throughout the course of his time in the sport, and even over in professional boxing, heâs had some blockbuster paydays against the likes of Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury.
Now, Ngannou is preparing to take on Philipe Lins in his return to the cage as part of the Gina Carano vs Ronda Rousey card on Netflix. One of the big reasons why he is no longer with the UFC is because of a pay dispute, with many siding with âThe Predatorâ following increased scrutiny regarding the promotionâs fighter pay system.
In a recent scrum, Ngannou explained why his focus right now isnât on legacy.
Ngannou discusses his thoughts on legacy
âLet me tell you whatâs the legacy,â Ngannou told MMA Junkie. âMy legacy right now, is my kids back home, with my family back home, getting healthcare, getting security, being able to put food on the table, being able to put a roof on their head. Thatâs a better legacy. You can have the Muhammad Ali legacy or whatever you want.
âIf your kid cannot attend the school, he has no place in the society. If your kid doesnât have food in the stomach, that legacy doesnât help you for anything. You cannot go to the store or to the gas station, or pay a school fee with a legacy. You have to understand that this is bullsh*t that promotion tricks fighters with, and theyâre all out there fighting for legacy. Good for you. Keep your legacy and give me my pay â what I deserve.â
