They won two of the three overtimes this series. In game 4 they were down 0-3, then scored 4 unanswered goals. Then won in overtime after FL made a miracle goal with 19 seconds left in the 3rd period, in FL.
I don’t know what happened to them last night, but they were every bit as capable of winning the series. Maybe not 50 out of 100 times, but enough that FL was certainly challenged.
Last year FL won games 1-3. Game 4 was in Edmonton. The arena here hosted a watch party. I went, fully expecting to see FL win in four straight games. It was an incredible production; they showed the live game on the “jumbotron” and projected, in real time, circles on the ice with each players’ number in it, and a spot for the puck. It was amazing to see. But seeing the Panthers then lose 8-1 was not amazing. Ed. then won the next two games as well, taking it to game 7.
They do have a lot to be proud of, but a cup isn’t one of them. I agree that they could have won either series but I do think the better team won, for sure.
They deserved to be there but they were clearly outclassed in this series. They were lucky to win game 4, and got their doors blown off in games 3, 5, and 6.
Oilers fan here. Not hanging my head in shame. They were the clear #2 team in the league this year. It was poised to be an epic final. Some great games, but overall Florida was too good.
Not sure where Edmonton goes from here. Old team with lots of contracts expiring. All cheap contracts though. Not much money to play with.
People seem to be down on McDavid and Draisaitl. Not sure what more the two of them could have done. Over the past 4 playoff seasons
They lost to the eventual Stanley cup champ all 4 seasons.
Overall one of the best playoffs I can recall watching. First round was amazing. So many storylines. So many great comebacks and last second goals. Rantanen scoring a hat trick in the third period of game 7 against his old team that did him dirty should go down as one of the all time greatest sports stories
He’s going to get 18 mil a year and cripple their cap flexibility. Dude is amazing but you can’t have the two highest paid players in the league and expect to have anything of value around them.
He says he wants to win, so doing that would be foolish. He’s definitely going to get paid. I was thinking around 16 million. Even at that cap hit, the Oil will be hard pressed to add talent. The Nurse deal is awful. Drai is making 14 per. Bouchard is probably going to get 9.5+. Rumors are Frederic is going to sign for 8 years, $4 million AAV. The Campbell buyout isn’t helping matters either.
I wonder if he’ll take a 3-4 year deal and cash in again with the cap continuing to rise? Someone will still give him a stupid deal at 32 or 33. He’ll also have a chance to sign elsewhere should they fail to win in the meantime.
