There are consequences to living the life, no regerts.
The problem with this sport is sometimes turtling up is actually the best thing to do defensively but the refs will jump in like youre on fire if you do.

That was an appropriate stoppage. He gave him a couple beats to start defending himself and he just froze.

I think it’s the “intelligently” part of defending that comes into play. The “Honu guard” doesn’t count.
Clearly Evloev planned on losing before the fight because he’s less surprised than anyone lol

Yeah that has always been my problem with it. I have seen so many fights get stopped because a guy turtled but the guy on top landed almost none of the strikes. But it has been this way for so long now that fighters know that turtling means quitting.

Evloev was full turtled but at the same time I think refs should factor in that the shots are doing zero damage and let it go a bit longer. 3 more shots off Evleov’s arm would not have been a fighter safety issue in this fight. I didn’t like the stoppage.

We’ve also seen guys turtle up and the guy on top misses strikes, then gasses, and the guy on bottom comes back and wins.
I just saw Dave Letherby gave Colby Thicknesse rounds 1 and 2. How the fuck do you give him round 1? Round 2 yes, round 3 very debatable but possible, round 1 no chance.
I don’t like the turtling stoppages either, but fighters now know the deal.

Evolev put himself in a position that everyone knows is a fight stopper. Fight was stopped. Turtling up is not a good strategy for anything unless you are trying to wear down your opponent by absorbing punishment.

I just think about awesome fights like Pat Barry and Kongo. Glad they let the shit keep going. Lesnar vs Carwin. Lots of examples like that when they used to let fights go for a bit longer.
