Official UFC Fight Night: Della Maddalena vs. Prates Thread (Early Morning)

Prates seems to hurt people with every strike. Whether it is kicks, knees, elbows or punches. He has a knockout by each way and this tko of JDM was due to leg kicks.

Tuivasa contemplated walking away from the sport after his fifth straight loss but ultimately decided to return to action after more than a year off. Sadly, he experienced the same bad results after dropping a decision to Tallison Teixeira back in February.

He wasted no time booking his next fight for the UFC Perth card on Saturday but once again Tuivasa struggled to produce much offense with Sutherland countering his massive power with takedowns while racking up huge swaths of control time on the ground.

To make matters worse, Tuivasa also had a point deducted late in the fight for an illegal knee as Sutherland swept the scorecards for his first UFC victory.

While Tuivasa clearly plans to fight again, it’s tough to say if that happens in the UFC.

Most fighters aren’t afforded more than a few consecutive losses before being released, but Tuivasa has always been a fan favorite so he was obviously granted more time to turn things around. Unfortunately, he’s not sitting on seven losses in a row and it remains to be seen if the UFC wants to bring him back for one more fight or not.

Very pissed off that on the Paramount+ app the only thing available is the fucking main event! No prelims or anything hours after the fucking card has ended… On ESPN the entire card was available immediately no matter what time you started watching!

He showed zero fatigue DURING the rounds, but he was breathing fairly hard between rounds. Weird combo! Must be the smoooooking

There’s no reason for him to fight in the ufc again - he clearly doesn’t have the skills or ability to be there .. he has not improved at nor has he even bothered to get into shape

Sir, I believe you’ve overlooked the reason why the UFC keeps him employed and why he keeps fighting.

But honestly question, does Tuivasa train hard? Is he training throughout the week? It doesn’t seem
So ..

Confidence makes all the difference in the world

We’ve all seen fighters crush everybody, then face the champ, lose and never be the same again. Over and over.

Jack was on the brink of breaking down mentally and crying against Islam. So it makes sense that he would not be the guy who dominated Belal in this fight.

UFC seems to never recognize this and have ruined many fighters this way.

I think the better way is after a fighter takes a bad loss, give them a few easy wins and matchups to crush cans and gain their confidence and marketing appeal back before facing stiff competition again.

But he did the shoey man. The shoey. Do you know how over that got him with the crowd?

Who needs to train hard when you’re getting paid big bucks because you did a shoey

I picked Prates, felt he would be too fast, elusive, and kill him with his range/reach out in the open.

When I saw the size difference, I knew it wa a guarantee that Prates was going to win.

The fight reminded me a lot of Anderson Silva vs Rich Franklin.

I thought both JDM/Franklin would have the size, strength, and power advantage going in, only to be dwarfed by their seemly skinnier opponent.

A lot of it could be that the losing fighter wants to stay relevant in the rankings so they keep up with other top opponents. Even if they lose, they’re still in “contention”.

JDM was ranked #1 below the champ going into this fight. they were simply not going to match him up with a #8-10 guy. Prates was #4.

After this showing, I’d say JDM falls to #6 or 7, so u can give him a confidence fight. Maybe Leon Edwards or the loser of Brady/Buckley.

I think UFC tries to avoid building up fighters the way boxing does, but they should learn from it.

And have ranked guys occasionally fight unranked guys.

Rankings shouldnt determine everything like they do imo.

We would get much better finishes if we had some can crushing once in a while too.
