I feel like Luke is an honest broker and I respect that. I don’t need to agree with someone to respect them. That said, I agree with most of his takes on mma.

Yeah I agree. There isn’t a lot of honesty these days, particularly in “media” or media-adjacent positions. That and passion are two things I seek out. Those are two things he has. He used to go off a lot more but I think BC calmed him down. Lol

UFC is short of star power and need to keep as many as they can on the current roster to have something to bring to the broadcast rights negotiations…A Jones vs Aspinall fight is about the biggest bargaining chip they have right now.

Fedor had the best run ever but his career ended up being embarrassing

The second half of Jones career has been a lot of decisions and long layoffs, capped by a “title fight” vs a guy over 40 coming off a loss and a 3 year layoff.
I don’t think that makes him the best.
At least Fedor kept taking the risk of tough fights.

Look, I like Fedor a million times more than jones. I hate jones. Their careers are vastly different. Coasting decisions is way different than getting finished. Fedor went life and death with Brett Rogers. Unfortunately for all of us jones is the best fighter ever and has the best career ever. He’s fought a ton of really good fighters for a really long time and he’s never lost.

Of course you don’t. Because deep down you know Aspinall is a nobody that does nothing for Jones’ legacy. Your hated for Jones is just clouding your judgment. I think the guys a turd, but he is in no way ducking a nobody with no ground game.

See this is where I disagree.
I see a lot of historically great HWs giving him problems. No way he runs the table.
Jones’s careers over the last 10 years or so hasn’t really been earth-shattering. If you take away the context of his initial run, the last 10 years or so would not put him in the GOAT conversation. He dethroned the previous LHW era. But after that he’s just been padding and playing it safe.
10 years is a long time.
Like I have said, he pretty much has to be the best LHW.
But what he’s been doing at HW these last 2 fights shouldn’t be moving the needle IMO.
If Jones ain’t fighting and beating all-time great HWs, then he doesn’t get to be in the all-time great HW discussion.
You could argue that this historically weak HW division is not Jones’s fault.
But the historically weak HW division is the reason Jones is fighting at HW.
He had the chance to move up into a stacked HW division. He chose not to. He waited it out.
So no, beating Aspinall would not in any way cement Jones’s legacy.
At least not in my book, and certainly not at HW.
LHW is a different story.
He proved himself there.
Why does it even matter what he’s done at heavyweight? He’s not a heavyweight and he’s never lost at any weight. He’s the best fighter ever because he’s undefeated with the majority of his fights being the champion and thus fighting only other top guys.

If he retires undefeated it will 100% be part of the conversation. “2 division champ”.
