I have no issues with how the cop handled it. He didn’t panic didn’t or over react. He knew the threat called for backup and made sure not to escalate the situation without multiple other cops.

He had his taser out and was giving Poirier room until backup arrived.
Poirier was being aggressive and insulting but he didn’t reach the level of the cop using force.
This is a situation where a cop is damned if he does, damned if he doesn’t.
If he stays calm and deescalates the situation, he’s a pussy.
If he tases and potentially shoots Poirier, he risks using excessive force.
Nobody got hurt. Incident even ended with a fist bump.

I didn’t see the cop being enamored with Dustin at all.
He could tell Dustin was heavily intoxicated and acting volatile and knew he didn’t want to get into any kind of physical exchange solo.
So he tried to de-escalate the best he could with a drunk who isn’t able to reason very well.

Years and years ago, I was delivering cheese to Costco and a grocery chain. Most people were cool to work with, but the “head receptionist” we had to go through at one Costco was a fucking nasty ugly black bitch. Eventually, I lost it and went all in yelling racist insults. No, I didn’t try to fight her though haha. Not that I could anyway, she being behind those plastic walls.
I fully expected to be fired. Instead that bitch turned nice with me. I don’t think it was out of fear, but like she respected me now. One of those dumb people equating being nice as weakness.
But I wasn’t on video for all t o see, and I’m not an ex-UFC fighter. Sucks for Poirier. The video really makes him look bad, but just up to recently, that video would not have been released.
