You live up that way or on vacation? I went to school near Lake Placid and trucked all over that peaks region, mostly in winter. Adirondacks are one of my favorite places. Looks like you did some good trekking!

Nope! Live on Long Island. But I LIVE in the Adirondacks. I’ve hunted near saranac lake my entire life. Love the whole area.

I learned about the school when I was 15 and got kicked out of the Hotel Saranac bar for being underage. I wasn’t even drinking but one of the gentleman didn’t like me flirting with the help. As I’m sure you know, Paul Smith’s used to run the hotel as part of their hospitality program. It went to shit for a few years after they stopped running it. I think it’s better (expensive) now though.
Paul Smiths was on my short list for forestry studies but I had no money and couldn’t afford room and board. I stayed on Long Island and went to Stony Brook.
I had done an internship with the USFS in Cabin Creek, Idaho as a backcountry ranger during college. Best months of my life. I could go on forever. One day I’ve gotta digitize my photos.
After that, I came home determined to transfer to Paul Smiths but then I met my wife at a bar OGer-style. She was a keeper. 23 years later here I am taking our kids to the real NY as often as we can. No regrets!

Got a guided raptor hike planned for my son and I at the Jenner Headlands Preserve tomorrow morning from 10 until 2. Supposed to be abnormally hot all over tomorrow. 90s out there which is crazy for the coast. Might have to cut the hike short as there is no cover out there and a fair amount of incline. Might just end up at the beach early. It’s gonna be a great day regardless.
