I’d take aldo. At his best he had way more tools. I think he had the speed advantage by a long shot. Id give Ilia the power advantage, but I don’t think he’d get the KO.

Yeah, Aldo had a great run & had some damn good skills, but I’m not of the opinion that he was the GOAT. To me, that’s Volk & we saw what Topuria did to him.

Well so far Ilia is taking the conor route. Wins a title, moves up. Wins a title, takes time off. We don’t know what he’s gonna do.

No, the guy with much more impressive wins against much higher competition is greater. It’s also just so happens / totally valid to at least recognize that in common weight class opponents, Topuria’s top wins are against Max / Volk, and Aldo went 0-3 against them.
That is good MMA math but you have to appreciate Aldo’s longevity. Not many fighters are still competitive when Aldo was losing to Max and Volk. Aldo fought for 20 years almost.
I’ll take the 9 title defenses and complete domination of a weight class over the incomplete canvas ilia has.
This is all the same stuff that has been said about countless other fighters before they were done. Then shit happens…

Ilia is off to a great start. Let’s see where he goes and then crown him.
I absolutely appreciate him as a fighter, skilled exciting style, he was elite for a long time, great champion, seemed like a great genuinely good guy, and loved his story.
But this is a prime vs. prime discussion, and Ilia absolutely destroys some of the absolute greatest of all time, while Aldo was a decision machine against lower competition in his rare wins against kind of top competition, and against the truly top competition (Max, Volk, Yan, Conor, Merab) he lost ALL OF THEM.

The crazy thing about Topuria is how good his MMA grappling is and he just hasn’t really had to show it. He went in pretty deep against Ryan Hall and got the best of it.
I love Aldo, but Topuria is an absolute freak of nature. He’s only spent 23 minutes in the octagon in his last 3 fights to finish Volk, Max and Oliveira. That may be the best 3 fight streak in UFC history.

This. He has the personality of an arrogant cunt. But is one of the most exciting fighters in the sport hands down and finishes everyone, dominantly.
If Conor slept aldo in seconds I think Topuria does too.
