Prime Roy Jones Jr. is the greatest combat sports athlete that ever lived

Yes, I know boxing isn’t the best combat sport and he would lose in a street fight to fighters that practiced more complete disciplines, but in terms of actual athleticism he is unmatched by anyone in any other sport in terms of raw talent.

50 straight wins (minus one DQ which would have been a win) absolutely clowning fools (even Toney and B-Hop) in levels of the matrix 5x greater than Silva.

Titles from MW all the way up to HW.

No combat sports athlete in history had his god given ability and talent, but he who giveth, taketh away and his decline came starkly as result of the fact that everything that made him who he was (speed, coordination, timing, reflexes) are things that age out quicker than boxing fundamentals… essentially his athleticism. Which is why he’s the greatest combat sports athlete ever.

RJJ was indeed one of the most impressive boxers of all time. His reflexes were amazing

The reflexes, the rhythm, the flow, the blinding speed.

You could literally see the GOATness seep from his every pore.

I’ve never seen anything else like it.

Fuck off with this shit.

RJJ was amazing.

Wouldn’t call him the GOAT though.

I appreciate it for it’s complex simplicity.

NHB/MMA changed my life as it did others here…
But there’s something about a great boxing match that is hard to compete with.

Not saying it’s “the best” combat sport.
I’m saying it doesn’t matter.

So let’s name grappling and MMA trained fighters who could beat boxers in hypothetical no-rules situations…

I’ll bet you’re fun at parties.

GOAT is judged by the criteria of resume and I wouldn’t say he was tops there.

But in terms of raw skill, dominance, ability and actually being the best,

he’s my GOAT.

What more do you want?

You say boxing isn’t the “best”.
I say it doesn’t matter.

Can’t we just enjoy it without ranking everything?

And that’s fair.

I believe he is on the list of those who qualify for that to be a reasonable opinion.

He was awesome.

When he fought ruiz… what a great fight. We dont even get close to something like that nowadays.

My bad.

For some reason I thought I was responding to Jack.

Carry on…

RJJ was already close to 40. Calzaghe is a great one too

When he had already long been defeated by father time… this is like Jones bragging about beating Stipe :face_with_hand_over_mouth:

A lot of boxers avoided him at his prime. That’s why resume isn’t too strong at the majority of his career. Then he declined past the 2nd Tarver fight

Yessir… I mean his resume is fairly spectacular if you consider how many weight classes he won titles in, just maybe not topping GOAT lists.

But my genius brain shows me his genius level talent. I’ve never seen anything like it.

There have been various matrix style fighters in combat sports, but he was the most NEO out of them all. Hands down.

I generally agree with this sentiment, but when boxing was great… Fuck it was great.

And RJJ was incredible, one of my all time favorites

Calzaghe is one of my favorites and doesnt get enough credit, but RJJ was past his prime when they fought.

No that is your interpretation and no one would disagree about RJJ.

According to you everyone blows but Jon. You shit on everyone else.

You just can’t help yourself.
