Dana’s the biggest fish in the pond, but if he wanted to change the rules that badly he would have dropped the money to make it happen.
To them it’s cheaper to have the bonus structure to incentivize action.
Everyone who trains knows there’s no substitute for wrestling and it’s hard to learn it competitively as an adult in the US.
It’s why GSP becoming a great MMA wrestler with no prior experience as an adult is so damn impressive.

It really is. But he’d probably fare not that great in pure wrestling. He intelligently uses strikes - his own or his opponent’s - to set up his takedowns.
Chimaev WAS exciting… until his DDP bout. Most of Khabib or Islam’s bouts have been fun. It’s the lay’n’pray that has got to go. Not “wrestling” in itself! In a weird way. On another note, Merab is fun as he takes people down but can’t hold them there ha ha.
